okokokok i just need to get my thoughts out holy shiiiiit Blazar has a special place in my heart just for being the first ultra series ive watched live as it aired.
It also has a special place for being peak.
I mean where do I even start...well first of all the finale was amazing. a very nice payoff to the theme of communication and response to violence that the series has been building on nicely. Having the main conflict be resolved through communication - a nice take on the ultra formula - while also having a good old fashioned brawl between SKaRD, Blazar and Vallaron was some fine writoing. Also friggin excellently filmed. The choice to hold that take from Blazar and Vallaron's fight to Earth Garon's entrance was just *chefs kiss* and that wide shot in the final showdown to show the complete wreckage of the city...just wow. And of course the final shot of our SKaRD crew.
And also huge props to Taguchi for holding back on the the Blazar Kousen till the end??? Like having it come as a result of Jun's cheering was an amazing choice. Also saving Blazar's words for the finale and having it be Gento's catchphrase but including them both...damn.
For my closing thoughts...yeah as you can tell I thought the series was great. Having a recurring plot thread with V99 gave the series much needed momentum and pace to space in between the filler episodes. Not to say the filler episodes are bad btw. Some of the best episodes of the series are filler like what??? Insurance Hero, the episode with Teruaki and his dad, Zangill, Gavadon are all highlights. Maybe V99 needed to be more prominent in the plot but don't disregard the filler is all i'm saying. And praise for the recurring plot threads of the show. Like Garamon's spikes turning into the tilsonite sword and each of the crew's indiv episodes being referenced in that montage in ep 24.
10/10 series. Taguchi cooked
