my fav coworker handed her notice in despite the fact she was getting technically a promotion (a higher ranked role but the same payβso no way iβm applying for it, give me more moolah) and another coworker i get on decently with probably handed hers in too, she just doesnβt want to tell me.

You turned around and looked at the studio, finding him inside. He stood under the low lighting with his soundproof headphones on. He looked at the sheet of music before him with the lyrics on and moved the headphones to better fit on his head.
The other members of &Team moved to give you space to sit beside them, remaining cordial. You smiled in return and sat gently in your seat, your eyes trained on Nicholas as he gave the thumbs up to the recording staff to confirm he was ready.
His eyes then looked behind the staff and seemed to find you, and they seemed to shift. Something behind them changedβsomething you couldn't name and wasn't sure how to describe. He didn't look as annoyed as he had the first time you met him, but his gaze was still just as intense and intimidating.
You sat up straighter, forcing your back straight. You refused to allow him to intimidate you.
His eyes remained on you as you heard the melody of your song play. Your vocals played, and you kept your eyes on him as he kept his on you. The staring refused to give up, neither of you willing to admit defeat. Eventually, your vocals came to a pause in the song, and then he sang into the microphone with such a soft voice. You watched, his eyes closing for a second as he tried to hit a higher note. You felt a ripple of something in your chest. A butterfly, maybe?
