Lil chat for a change 1 - Senor interviews long standing TF artist Immortaltoms.
If you been around the TFandom for a minute you sure come across a profile pic of a red panda working hard at a drawing table. Immortaltoms is a very talented cartoonist with a quite unique style that has been doing TF for the best part of a decade at this point. Shrinking, frog-girls, boob-heads, inanimate, sexy & bizarre body changes… He touches all the branches of the tree of changes and has agreed to be interviewed by yours Senor for SkS…!
Immortaltoms: Hoowdy. I am an artist. Sculptor, painter, graphic designer and likely more known for my large library of posted kink arts. You have likely seen something of mine out in the verse. If not, welcome to an introduction to my madness.
1) You've been a prolific artist for 10 years in the TFandom, a fandom in which artists going MIA is rather common, how do you feel about that achievement?
I'm not sure. Honored to be among a select few who have remained for as long as I have or longer. For me, it's been a journey of art experimentation. Finding my voice in visual communication. The communities that enjoy my stuff have all been very welcoming and friendly for the most part. I know if it wasn't for the support of so many wonderful people over the years, I would unlikely still be plugging away at kink/TFandom arts. Support in the way of comments, idea sharing, art sharing and in general just kind friendly communications with me. I would encourage everyone to find their voice with writing, arts or just reaching out to a favored artist and letting them know you dig their work. We are all in this together and we should uplift one another to keep more TFandom artists interested and involved in the medium we all enjoy.
2) Do you have any particular advice for newcomers that want to last as long as you have?
Advice? Perhaps find the things you are most passionate about. If it's line art, color work, captions or story crafting...(I know I have left out so many other artistic options. Your interests are valid and seen by me too) ...self passion and interest is important. Ask questions of artists. Find those who want to encourage new talents and are willing to be able to step back when the new talent rises brighter than the last. We all have different perspectives and levels of skill. Be the one to encourage others first and you will find yourself a community who will lift you up as well. Artistic failure happens. For every dozen pieces I sketch, a good third of them are discarded. Be bold, accepting limitations. What you create now will be drastically different in ten years. The earlier limitations will become lesser limitations or nonexistent with practice and time. The craft I chose for my art paths have never stopped evolving and improving according to my aesthetic style and tastes. It's alright to try a new style, concept or medium of creation. Be bold for yourself first. Fans and the community will follow.
3) What inspires your work? Do you follow the whims of your mood or plan ahead?
Inspiration comes from comments left on other pieces I've done and posted. Most of the time I just sketch with a vague idea what I have in mind. Mood and whims do play a part in the creative process. Outside of the community's influence, I visit art museums, craft fairs and liberally use the local libraries for comic books. Inspiration feels like something that can not be forced. It takes some mental development to see beyond the clear and obvious. As I've aged and seen/experienced more of the world around me, small elements can spark larger ideas and concepts. Short answer, I don't know. I'm just making it up as I go.
4) What's your favorite kind of TF?
I don't have any in particular. If it's something I have drawn more than once and not as a commission that may be a favored type of TF. I do tend to be breast centric in many of my pieces.
5) You have a rather regular and varied workflow, what's your trick to keep a healthy upload schedule?
Heh. My workload is spread over multiple art endeavors. SFW things as well as NSFW. I've never been great at keeping regular posting schedules. As family emergencies wind down I do hope to post more often and on a more regular schedule. I post as I finish things most of the time. My advice/trick would be to treat the art as a job. Work in a routine and try your best to maintain it. As hypocritical as that sounds coming from me.
6) Any big art plans for the future?
Not as such. More art is mainly my focus.
7) And last but not least, what's the thing that got you interested in metamorphose erotica?
Probably early animation, Alice in Wonderland for size interests most likely. Film and TV have been good sources for inspiration or kink awareness. My earliest realization that art could be 'erotica' was from early Excalibur comic books. There are a few artists who I like that have illustrated NSFW stuff before they became mainstream comic book artists. Knowing a foot in both worlds is possible helped push my desire to share my arts and twisted ideas with the verse."
Immortaltoms: Final thoughts, be the focus of positive energy for artists you admire. Be the positive force inspiring new artists. Share, assist and be kind. Art is subjective in so many ways. There is no wrong way to have art in your life daily. I believe in you. Cheers.
