Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere of Influence – Ascension highlights some of the most epic battles and notable events of Sengoku Era Japan, when myriads of military officers and lords fought for domination over the land. Players will be able to experience all the events that led from the fracture of the country to the establishments of clans and the forming of alliances before the inevitable clash that led to the emergence of the first Shogunate. Allowing for deeper immersion and insight into these events as well as providing a closer look at the development of strongholds and armies, Ascension provides players with the extra option to begin the game from the position of an officer and ascend through the ranks to become an important warlord—perhaps even the overlord of Japan!

A new character has also been added, Chacha, or at this point, known as Yodo-dono. 

She is the daughter of Oichi and Asai Nagamasa, concubine/second wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and mother of Toyotomi Hideyori

Along with this new addition, a teenage appearance for Yukimura has been revealed

And new costumes for Yukimura, Kai, Kunoichi and Inahime (Sanada Colors, plus an extra Lawson for Kunoichi)

For the longest time, people have accepted that Nobunaga was born in Nagoya Castle on the 12th day of the 5th month (June 23). While there are theories stating otherwise, this one is the most prominent.

Then some documents were discovered listing Nobunaga’s place of birth as Shobata Castle. The same document apparently also says that Nobunaga’s birthday is the 28th day of the 5th month (July 9).

Kiyomasa passed on in 1611, and it is often speculated that Tokugawa Ieyasu arranged his death. Katô was a friend to Toyotomi Hideyori - Hideyoshi’s son - and this made him a potential stumbling block in Ieyasu’s plan to undermine this last threat to the Tokugawa shogunate. At the same time, a disease-the ‘Chinese pox’, as it was called-was making the rounds, and had already claimed a number of well-known lords (such as Honda Masanobu and Kuroda Kanbei). It is therefore difficult to even speculate on whether the disease provided the cause of Kiyomasa’s death or a cover-story for it. His son, Tadahiro (1597-1653) was later on accused of treason against the Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu and was banished-a possible clue to the fall of Katô Kiyomasa.

There was a replica of Ii Naomasa’s red armor at the Hamamatsu Castle.

The guide says that generals will make their armors bright and extravagant to make them easily noticeable. So when they did something great in battle, their lords can easily tell who it was and can present them with rewards (money, land, etc.)

This easily noticeable trait also let enemies tell them apart. For example, Naotora’s whole army wore red armor and were known to be strong. So when enemies spot them by their armors, the ones scared of them will back off.

Ii Naomasa’s premature death in 1602 has been widely blamed on the wound he received at Sekigahara. Naomasa was highly regarded by Tokugawa Ieyasu, so it is no surprise that his sons Naotsugu and Naotaka succeeded him in his service and title. However, Naotsugu managed to anger Tokugawa by refusing to take part in his campaign to reduce the Toyotomi clan stronghold at Osaka. Nonetheless, the Ii remained influential in Japanese politics throughout the Edo period.

Naomasa is often characterized as the opposite of Ieyasu’s other great general, Honda Tadakatsu. While both were fierce warriors of the Tokugawa, Tadakatsu survived countless battles without ever suffering an injury, while Naomasa is often depicted as enduring many battle wounds, but fighting through them.
