tartah and coco’s relationship is fascinating and i really adore tarco but i feel like the most recent chapters make it very clear they’ve chosen custas and agott over each other which just further substantiates their respective queer coding. tarco begin their relationship developing a bond of mutual ignorance, bliss, and “normalcy” [read: heteronormativity], but as the story progresses tartah’s world is completely expanded by custas, and he sacrifices coco’s trust in him to chase after custas in parallel to oluruggio/qifrey (who are also very queer). coco chooses to stay with agott rather than follow him.
it’s also interesting bc custas and coco are deliberate parallels and sort of an “andrew in drag” situation for tartah who clearly has a crush on coco and also had his relationship with custas open with a classic “do you like me or something?” at the same time you have agott who is pretty clearly meant to be a lesbian—even just from basic narrative coding, coco, tetia, and richeh all have young boys they’re positioned opposite of to explore what young crushes look like, whereas agott only has that with coco.
i feel like tarco were so necessary for advancing each other’s character arcs, but i do think shirahama sort of deliberately pulled off a bait and switch with them. tartah has a crush on coco, and maybe coco reciprocates, but it’s that sort of “first love” that comes with a lot of idolization and isn’t necessarily realistic. as both characters begin to understand the reality of the witching world, they drift further apart. as they realize the falsehood of “normalcy” they’re pushed further towards custas and agott. i still love them a lot bc they’re the first they know to ever really understand each other. and yet, it’s through understanding each other they come to understand their respective selves and this ironically develops them beyond the other.

the chain as stupid ass shit ive been saying lately, because i haven’t done one of these in a while but i sure have been saying some shit
Time: Got his xrays back and has been going around saying “KNEE REVEAL!!!” and showing his friends the xray photos of his knees because he only ever wears pants and like none of his friends have actually seen his knees before and he thinks this is funny
Warriors: Will be in the middle of talking about something genuinely stupid and if his phone buzzes and interrupts him, will go “who is texting me im going through something right now”/will be walking around and sit down at a table with people he lives with and if they try to include him in the conversation (ONLY if its a stupid and silly conversation), will go “dont talk to me im going through something right now” and sigh, and then will end up joining the conversation
Twilight: Texts the people he lives with every single day in the middle of his work day for a picture of his pet because he wants to see his creature to give him the strength to carry on and every time he asks he goes “may i see my son” and every time its BASICALLY the same picture because the creature in question has like two napping spots
Sky: Will start talking and then end up stuttering or stumbling over his words so bad nothing is comprehensible, and then will sigh and go “and ive always said that” and then walk away
Hyrule: Started saying “foiled” a lot because he cant say “dammit” at work. “Foiled again” has become the new thing to say at any minor inconvenience
Legend: Decided to call himself the bubble wizard because he’s mastered the art of the bubble wand and refers to himself in the third person when The Bubble Wizard is on duty. Examples: “The Bubble Wizard is tired we’re gonna have to go back inside” and “The Bubble Wizard’s powers have been foiled once again… by the wind….”
Wild: Will partially dislocate something and go “oh thats new!!” (its not new. this has been happening his whole life hes only just realized THATS whats actually happening) or “aw man”, or everyone around him’s personal least favorite “there go my bones…”
Four: Says “no because why not??” every time he gets cut off in rush hour traffic, a huge step up from straight up screaming or threatening to eat people’s tires and licenses
Wind: Will start complaining about how something in his body hurts more than usual and when his friends, concerned, say something like “…that shouldn’t hurt at all” he’ll mysteriously look out the window and go “right… right…. and i knew that”
