it makes me really sad how many older people i meet at my job who are capable of using and talking to chatgpt or another generative AI (a lot), and they call it their friend, and they design all their documents and prints with it, but they don’t know how to send an email or open a word document. i’m just baffled at how it’s possible. it seems like you would need basic computer skills to know how to use it or would have needed them sometime in the past like 20 years, but they don’t care to remember how any other apps work, or maybe they can’t. a woman at my job was struggling to change the font size on a document chatgpt made for her and she prompted it to fix it about 10 times and it did not work. so i took the time to help her download google docs, put the text into it, and change the font size herself. she was so impressed and i was happy i had seemingly fixed a big problem for her, but then the next time she was in, she was trying to do the same thing. and she was printing these documents for a court case 😭 another regular of mine talks to it in front of us and asks it to verify the answers we give him about the work we do. it’s odd and makes me so sad. people used to be crazy WITHOUT an AI friend that affirms whatever they want to hear and it was easier to deal with.
