eugene allerton:

william lee (bless his heart) would text the "would you love me if i was a rat" question and eugene would roll his eyes and reply with a curt ass "no".

however the gods would giggle because there's no way they'll let gene get away with hiding his true feelings (they're also weak to lee's sad puppy eyes), and on a night one stays at the other's apartment, they transform lee into a fluffy little rat while they both sleep.

eugene allerton wakes up to something tickling his chin and loud squeaks and why the hell is there a rat on his chest and why is it trying to talk to him? gene immediately gets the feeling that it's actually his man (he'll never admit it out loud but william lee is his man), because those pathetic eyes belong to william lee, and william lee only.

and so starts his journey as a rat owner, trying to find out how to feed him, how to deal with a clingy rodent that chirps and hisses every time gene leaves the room or puts him down. he's kinda annoyed at first, the whole situation is absurd and somehow a tiny nonverbal lee is actually more demanding than human lee.

but it doesn't take long for eugene to carry rat lee around in his chest pocket, to have a tiny plate for him to eat from and a fluffy pillow so he can sleep next to him in bed (lee always climbs up gene's chest and snuggles there because it's warmer).

when the gods decide eugene's showed lee enough proof of his love, they turn him back into a human. gene expects lee to tease him because he did end up caring for him while he was a rat. but lee doesn't, he quietly enjoys eugene's extra clinginess after his transformation because now he knows his boy loves him, human or rat, even if he doesn't say it.
