there's a scene from spider-man 2 that rattles around in my head sometimes where aunt may and peter get denied a loan from the bank, and then aunt may says "at least we get the toaster" while pulling out a newspaper clipping before also being denied that.

and now the progression of "at least we get the toaster" into "go fuck yourself" has forever been added to my overall impression of that scene because honestly that's just how the scene feels anyway emotionally. like fuck you joel??? give this old woman her toaster???
