I call bullshit on this post.
For starters, borhap didnāt destroy the queen fandom. In my opinion it actually helped the queen fandom. It got a whole new generation into queen. All the kids at my school who normally wouldnāt listen to queen fell in love with their music after the movie. It boosted their sales and rekindled interest in the band, and if youāve been in the fandom before the movie was released, youāve seen how many new fans have appeared.
Iām presuming the reason op thinks the fandom was ruined is because of all those new fans. A lot of people hate on these new fans because they found queen through the movie, and I think thatās total bullshit. Regardless of whether you liked borhap or not, people who started liking queen because of it are not any less of a fan than you are, and that elitist mentality only hurts a fandom. It doesnāt matter when or how someone started liking something, they are just as much as a fan as you are.Ā
People also tend to hate on these new fans because most of the new queen fans were younger, therefore more outwardly obsessive/crazy. Having a younger fanbase can be frustrating, but as I said earlier, this means another generation has fallen in love with queen. Even if these fans are annoying to you, they will grow up and mature, and they are going to keep the fanbase alive. Younger fans is not a bad thing, they will calm down eventually.
You may still think borhap ruined the queen fandom, and thatās fine. Whatever. Regardless, it is stupid to think that yesterday will also āruinā the beatles fandom. Yesterday isnāt about the beatles. Yes, theyāre a big part of it (obviously) but it centres around a fictional character making it big. There probably wonāt be many new fans to supposedly ruin the fandom anyway. And if there are new fans, isnāt that a good thing? Donāt you want your favourite bands to have continued interest and sales? Again, younger fans mean interest in the beatles (or any other band) will continue on for even longer.Ā Ā Plus if there is a bunch of annoying new fans, we canāt judge. The beatles fanbase was built off screaming teenage girls going batshit crazy at the mention of the beatles, our fandom was always āruinedā in a way.
Letās not forget these bands have both had fans (and fandoms, depending on your definition) for DECADES. There will constantly be new waves of fans, and you probably wonāt like some of them, or what they do in the fandom. Itās natural that in the past, present and future you will encounter fellow fans you dislike. Doesnāt mean the fandom is ruined. Fandoms go through phases that they will grow out of eventually.
TL;DR - These movies havenāt ruined their respective fanbases. Borhap (and maybe yesterday) helped grow interest in queen just as it was starting to slow down a little. Yes, there may have been new fans who were annoying and made content you didnāt like, but that doesnāt mean the fandom is ruined. These fans will leave or mature. When it comes to bands like queen or the beatles who have had such persistent fanbases, itās likely there will be phases which you donāt like. It happens to any fandom, and a change in dynamics is natural. There will be new phases or āerasā (if you want to call them that) soon enough. And remember, all of this is personal opinions and preference. If you donāt like the direction a fanbase is going, I respect that.Ā
