Inspiring Zim

(This is an old post that I felt just needed to be said again) INSPIRATION: As designers, we all want to think that anything is possible. It’s good to think like this. But some of the most potent inspiration comes from within boxes that we’ve created. Limitations and rules can be good in that they set up boundaries that don’t allow us to get too far away from where we should be going. Inspiration and work ethic go hand in hand. Some of the best creations happen when you’ve forced yourself over and over again to get something done right, within these boundaries we set for ourselves. Deadlines can totally make you creative… how many times have I heard myself say I have all the time in the world? I can do anything I want? In a way, these are all detractors keeping me from doing something. I think the best part, here, is how he talks about making things hard for himself. When you’ve mastered something, what else is there for you to do? You think you know, and have done it all, but you haven’t. THIS is when you can fully understand the statement that anything is possible. Making yourself uncomfortable right when you think you’ve found that comfortable space; that’s where inspiration lies. Polestar Design Contest 2021- Winners

Happy Earth Day!

Excited to be a part of the help Thermo Fisher Scientific is providing to this pandemic. I actually got to create the user interfaces used on the latest real-time PCR units that are being used to find results to tests: The Applied Biosystsem’s QuantStudio 3 and 5 instruments.

“As tests get more sophisticated, the instrument itself, needs to be efficient, fast, and easy. And by easy we mean, put in samples, push a button, and get the results in a fast order of time.” - So that’s what we did in designing this instrument

I wanted to share this video from @PeterMckinnon talking about finding and sharing inspiration from different areas of interest. The focus is on @lumeshot, a custom watch maker, who takes apart all kinds of watches and creates his own, unique twists to them. He then documents that process with video. I found this to be super inspiring.  

Nice landing page inspiration. Some really nice animation, like in the depth of the clouds in the sky vs the land, when looking down from the heavens. Very cool work by Stian, and animation by Matt Jedrzejewski. 

Here's a video of how Thermo Fisher Scientific is helping with #Covid19 on a global scale. And, on that note, I've had the privilege of leading the visuals for 2 of the 4 instruments talked about. Super honored to work here and actually see our products making a difference in the world.

This echoes the feelings I have of working for a company that puts science in the forefront. It brings us hope which is what we’re all in need of these days. When science wins, we all win!

Really like the work of Alberto Seveso, and his high-speed photographs of ink mixing with water. Great how he mixes that with portrait pictures for the Ayaka EP covers...

“It’s not about success anymore, it’s about the acclaim of the music we make.” I just got reacquainted with an old, favorite band of mine, that is still dishing it out. This is one of those bands that never gets old. Although, this album is now 2 years old, it still deserves some life. Love that they are still out there creating new music in these ExtraOrdinary Times!
