Modern RDR2 Headcanons

Hiiii this is a sideblog for posting RDR2 modern headcanons while I’m currently hyperfixated. I watched my bf play the game and now I’m playing it as well. I wrote a fic , but not modern AU and have been thinking about writing in the AU setting.

Arthur: Used to do more work for Dutch when he was younger, but eventually bought himself a small ranch with the money he saved up. Only does work for him sometimes now, mainly just using his land to store Dutch’s dropshipping inventory. Spends a lot of time working at the ranch. 

Dutch: Full-time scammer. Prefers the technical, back-end stuff: setting up fake accounts, finding the best methods, keeping all his scams in play. Does a lot of dropshipping, Zelle scams, ghost kitchens, AI accounts, ghostwritten books, etc. Also distributes drugs to dealers. 

Hosea: Also a full-time scammer, but more front-facing. Is the one writing posts and responding to people, coming off real sympathetic and in need. Lots of Nigerian prince type email scams, fundraiser scams, crypto, etc. Also has written self-help books and done crappy seminars for them, under the name Tacitus Kilgore. 

Grimshaw: Does admin for Dutch and Hosea’s scams. Keeping track of all their jobs, getting the others on jobs, and so on. Making sure that work actually gets done and anything that’s not above board is hidden. 

Micah: Got this idea from a post on here (can’t find it omggg but will link it if I find it) but he’s a super shady mechanic. Dutch helps put out tons of fake reviews and advertising for his business and they split the excess from the overcharging. 

Bill: A full-time long-haul trucker who helps Dutch move stuff. Has also transported drugs for him on several occasions. Keeps getting fired from different trucking companies because they catch him being shady. 

Javier: Is expanding their scamming empire into the Spanish speaking world. Does similar work to Hosea, and has considered starting an MLM company.

John: Mostly does random shit that Dutch asks him to do. Generates AI crap for him, looks up SEO information, uploads all his internet spam, etc. Eventually gets a real job working on Arthur’s ranch. 

Charles: Ends up working for Dutch because he needs money, but spends a lot of his time doing activism. Organizing, etc. That kind of thing doesn’t really pay, so he has to rely on odd work like Dutch’s scams.

Sean: Also does random crap for Dutch and Hosea, but deals drugs as well. Mainly weed, and he loves to scam neighborhood kids by cutting it with oregano. Makes money from running gambling ads on crappy meme pages too. 

Lenny: Is in college studying rhetcomp / English. He’s mainly doing stuff for Hosea, running social media accounts promoting his scams. Can’t do anything too shady since he’s planning on becoming a lawyer. They all find it kind of confusing that a future lawyer hangs out with scammers and criminals, but that’s Lenny’s own cognitive dissonance to work out. 

Abigail: Used to do sex work but joined in on scamming and picked up a job as a dentist’s receptionist.

Mary-Beth: She’s taken up writing romantasy BookTok novels while working retail. Runs a few small scams of her own, like a fake Etsy witchcraft store. People pay her to hex and curse and she just sends the same photo of a candle with nails in it to every client.

Tilly: Hotel staff at a very nice place and an expert at covertly stealing from guests. When on concierge duty, she helpfully “guides” guests to establishments that will put money in the gang’s pockets.

Karen: Mainly resells stuff that she shoplifts, and helps Hosea catfish rich men. When their catfishing victims ask to Facetime, they talk to Karen. Also flips stuff from thrift stores on Depop by listing it as Y2K. Extremely guilty of the Depop scrunch.

Sadie: Used to own a small farm with her husband, but now helps in the scamming business, doing whatever needs to be done. Sometimes will help Arthur at the ranch in busy times of the year.

Molly: Doesn’t work, and is losing her mind living with Dutch. She wants to get out of the house and do something but has a huge gap in her resume and doesn’t know what to do.

Felix: Works a dead-end HR job until he quits and works on the ranch with Arthur. Absolutely hates his stupid desk job except for gossip.

Kieran: Former petty criminal turned equine therapy assistant. After equine therapy helped him with his PTSD from the military, he decided to work at a therapy center tending to the horses and stables. 

Swanson: Still a reverend, but he’s had to move churches a few times, on account of the drug use. 

Pearson: Runs a McDonalds franchise LIKE. THE. NAVY. Took his actual Navy training and overapplies it at the McDonalds. His employees are sick of it.

Strauss: Landlord who works for a payday loan company. All his apartments get painted with the landlord special.

Uncle: Retired construction guy. Will sometimes do stuff for Dutch and once unwittingly helped him smuggle cocaine into the US. Prefers to just enjoy his retirement in peace.
