And, I've said this before, but do not trust copaganda shows. Public defenders are very good at their jobs and they will help you!

It's important to keep in mind that "help" is not a magic wand. They may not be able to make everything just go away, but the expensive fancy lawyers can't do that either.

What they can do is examine everything about your case. They will look at every element to make sure it's proven. They will look at every step to make sure the police have followed the law. And they do this shit every day, so they KNOW where the police are most likely to fuck up. They know who's most likely to do the fucking up.

If you have a good case, they'll tell you. If you have a bad case, they'll help you figure out what your rights are and whether or not you can get a deal, and if the deal is a good one. You don't have to do this alone.

If you're ever in trouble, whether you did it or not, ASK FOR AN ATTORNEY. Don't let cops or copaganda scare you away from your rights.

If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Since the movie's coming out soon, I want to throw a hope/idea for introducing characters: Wyatt getting in fights in D12.

Not like, recreationally, but think about it, Wyatt is described as a relatively good pick for betting because of his height and build and time in the mines. It's right off the bat that he's a bit intimidating, and then subverted in his death. Ben Wang, bless his heart, isn't particularly tall. So how do we establish the 'Wyatt as a legitimate competitor' quickly? Show him getting into street fights.

Again, not recreationally, but potentially as an enforcer/bodyguard with his family, or preferably, him getting harassed or jumped by some other members of 12 for being a part of the Callow family. He would have to be shown winning or at least hold his own, but it would establish him as an outsider to the district (a pretty big part of how he shows up and interacts with others), show him with a capability to protect himself and others (foreshadowing for his death) and a familiarity with violence that would set Haymitch on edge, but excite the audience. It would also be a cool opportunity for Wang to show off his martial arts skills, of which he is proficient in many.

Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

I look at history and see how things have changed and say 'okay so they can get better'#I see art and music and the efforts being put into the world around us and think 'hey I could do that too'. and it makes me feel better #it won't save the world but it may help someone. and that makes it matter #honestly I think the path to get me there was reckless kindness? 'nothing matters so do good recklessly'#and then I found myself enjoying those efforts of kindness #but cynics kinda bug me. and I see my students who are cynical and I try to prompt them out of it #'what are you able to do? what are you going to do to make today better? etc'#planting seeds y'know?#I hope it helps them #writing inspo #writing inspiration #being human #inspiration #tropes
