We spent a weekend in the small town of Bourbonnais, Il., about 54 miles from Chicago, shooting this project. It was a great shoot, made even better by the amazing people in front and behind the camera. A huge thank you to everyone for the fantastic experience.

A few years ago I directed a music video for one of my favorite artists’ Helado Negro. My concept was simple but audacious, a remake of Jørgen Leth’s fantastic short film “The Perfect Human”. Why The Perfect Human? For one, it’s a wonderful film that (honestly) I’m still deciphering. For two, Helado Negro’s track ‘Regresa’ seemed to beautifully, and with a groove, tell a story of a man missing, or longing, for his women (honestly I’m still deciphering that also). None the less it seemed like the perfect match. Aside from some added personal touches to the story - what’s up with the animals, chairs and all the time travel stuff? - It’s probably the closest I’ll ever get to an actual remake, much like this post is the closest I’ll probably get to a case study of sorts. Above is a side by side comparison of my video (left) and Jørgen’s film (right).
