Layla let out a sheepish laugh, rubbing the back of her neck.
"Yep, that's me. I live with him." She tilted her head toward Frederick before grinning. "Someone has to make sure he doesn't accidentally mistake a restaurant challenge for a speedrun."
Frederick lowered his gaze with an embarrassed smile.
"I believe that's a fair assessment."
Layla chuckled before pointing at the massive fish bowl.
"You know, when I first heard about the Mega Beef Bowl back in April, I thought, 'How hard could it be?'"
"...Turns out the answer was, 'Very.'"
"I didn't even get halfway before I surrendered." She folded her arms and huffed. "Then they told me it was 3,000 yen."
She stared into space for a moment, reliving the memory.
"I think my soul left my body before my wallet did."
Frederick couldn't help but laugh softly.
"I recall you insisting that the price was somehow more painful than the bowl itself."
"It was!" Layla protested with mock indignation. "Losing to a mountain of food is one thing. Getting charged 3,000 yen for the privilege of losing? That's emotional damage."
She glanced back at Yu with a grin.
"So, if Frederick actually finishes this monster on his first try..." she shrugged, "...I'm going to be just a little jealous."
Yu lets out a nod of complete understanding at Layla's story, one that could almost be seen as a pained soldier remembering memories of the war if one was to look closer.
"Believe me, I know all too well how dangerous that bowl is, eheh..."
All my savings... gone...!
"Well, at least it'll keep you full for... about the next two days."
Yu lets out a small laugh as he reminisces, turning his attention back to his teacher's bowl... As he begins to hear chattering from other students.
"No way, is Teach really going for it?! I didn't know you had it in you, man!"
... Evidently, a small crowd had gathered to watch Frederick attempt the challenge.
"... Well. You certainly got the attention of the class, Sensei."
Please don't take it as a challenge...! That's how the bowl gets you!
