"..." Was she being unfair to him? Sure, a bit of her disappointment was baked in with the kind of cynicism that those given power but not the shiny costume could lay claim to, but that wasn't his fault. By any account, her power, record and claim to this territory would mark her as a Kajin in any of the shows she grew up watching. Just not a particularly evil one. Even if she dressed like some badass anti-hero, he clearly believed in the mantle more than anything else. Not the W, but a W all the same. And that got Yoshika to change her tune a bit.

"Fine, I guess you've got a good point there. Not exactly living for money so much as the drive to do good. There was a time where I saw it the same way. Then of course things kinda ended up twisting for the worse and it became less like heroism, and more run of the mill public service. But that's hunting. We aren't meant to be the heroes people talk about." A statement that got her flexing that inhuman clawed hand of hers.

"Feh. I wish it paid though. It's a real pain in the ass to do odd jobs to cover rent each month..."

... They were genuine feelings, but it was clear it was at least meant somewhat in jest.

Her story gives him pause, reclining against the wall of a building, he thought his words over before he continued.

"... After a point, it all becomes interchangeable. 'S just down to what your gut says it is. If you ask me, anyone who protects others from the dark is doing some kinda heroism. I mean, your average joe couldn't beat down a monster. Hell, they couldn't even beat a Yakuza member. That you can and you're using..." A quick glance to her claw. "... That, to make a difference. That's still gotta count for somethin'."

A pause, as he thinks about what to add next.

"... And I think you underestimate how much people would latch onto someone with mysterious, edgy powers like you seem to got. Not to say you're one of those types, but... You've definitely got the vibe down. Though... Prolly for the best you don't have those kinda people hounding you if actual monsters are in the picture."

"...Bad enough to warrant my being here? You might not see them, but that's because they don't tend to show up in packs. Nightly routines. Entirely 12 hour recon, and the eventuality of running into something my powers are suited to putting down. It's been like this since the summer heat kicked up."

That is to say, months. But this guy's obliviousness to the fact seemed to coincide with her own disappointment at what she saw. Sure, she'd be an idiot to expect a certain half-boiled detective under the suit. But to find the guy had no idea what was going on and he was some random schlub? Talk about a letdown.

Chao lets out an irritated groan at the revelation. Awesome, super cool. Now there's actual monsters to deal with.

Perhaps that's why he found the Driver. Life was looking out for him before shit hit the fan proper.

At Yoshika's last comment, Chao squints and shakes his head.

"Definitely ain't rich. Bein' a vigilante doesn't exactly pay well. And... Much as even I can't believe it, this ain't cosplay. It's the real, genuine thing. Real enough, at least. I definitely feel stronger when I put the suit on, and the wind... It feels natural to me."

It was hard to believe, but that was the reality of the situation. The power was very much real, and it was handed to him of all people.

Letting out a sigh, he continued.

"... I may not be the real W, but I'm still a W nonetheless. I was given this power for a reason. If shit's been happenin' under my nose, under my city... Then I'm gonna do whatever I can to squash it out. Might not be the same as the Yakuza or street thugs, but... Eh. Power and responsibility. You know how it goes."

Of course, at turning around to face her accuser, the wolf seemed momentarily stunned by tbe other's getup. Certainly unmistakable in its flair and iconic muffler.

Well, whatever. She seemed... good enough, at least. Slightly, he lowers his guard. Her explanation—and recognition of what exactly he was, gives him pause. And slightly boosting his ego, but whatever.

"Wait. You're hunting the monsters...?"

... He didn't like how quickly he accepted that. If W existed, Monsters surely did also. All that mattered at this moment is the girl in front of him wasn't one causing troubles.

Slowly, he takes the Gaia Memory out to conserve his energy. A shield of wind envelops him, and from it...

"Sorry about that. I thought you were one of the Kaijin. If you've got these kinda powers, you can't take the risk. You prolly understand."

Though, knowing that they ARE real gives him pause. If he's here, may as well know just how bad.

...Yet in this moment, she felt spiteful enough to blow open the lid even further. Any person she could turn against the hive mind responsible for ruining her life brought some downright vindictive glee to her.

"I reeeeally doubt it, unless said horrors have infested the seas without me knowing. It's where the whole turf war stuff comes from. The damn things drop objects needed to restore our magic, and if we run out of it or fall into despair, we become one of those things ourselves. It's a system very purposefully designed to pit us against each other! Because turning into those stupid things is a process that some alien jackasses exploit to harvest for energy! To stall something only they have the lifespan to actually be at risk from!"

With that little bombshell dropped, Sayaka couldn't help but let out a frustrated sigh as it dawned on her just how heated she ended up getting in the moment.

"... An endless cycle...? That's... That is..."

... Before a tidal wave of raw fury appears in his eyes.

"HORSESHIT!"

Erupting with a yell uncharacteristic from his appearance, Chao made his feelings on that whole system known. "Fuck is even the point, then?! Treatin' people like they're just disposable batteries... That kind of mindset makes me wanna hurl! That ain't how you're supposed to handle a life, dammit! No future stained with the blood of innocent people is worth it!"

... Realizing he's also getting worked up, and steps back and takes a DEEP sigh, dismissively waving his hand at her apology.
