I’m really interested in doing my own spin with the Batman stuff/ Gotham/ Bruce’s menagerie of children; your series on it in particular sent me into wanting to do something like this because I have an avid love for the comics and characters but DC genuinely screws up their own writing and it’s a whole mess.

I figured it was smart to ask before I published anything about it since your my major inspiration into making my own designs and world on Batman/ Gotham/ and Bruce’s flock of children :))

I like Bruce being a Hunter, especially in your depiction of him, because it’d be such an interesting moral dilemma. At least to me lol. He would kind of HAVE to kill to feed the Hunt, but his no-kill rule prevents him. Especially if Bruce accidentally kills someone in his Hunter form (if that’s a thing? I read too much fanfic canon info escapes me).

That would be super interesting, yeah! My first thought for Bruce was The Dark, but maybe a mix of the two even could be interesting!

The BatFam is a little bit trickier as they aren't outright antagonistic but I'll do my best to re-imagine them in this context. Hell, maybe i could even design them in a future video!

Nightwing = The Stranger. Complicated circus background could easily be contorted into something sinister and uncanny.

Oracle = The Eye. It's all in the name. While it doesn't fully fit her character in canon (none of the fears do honestly) I could easily see this fear appealing to her the most.

Red Robin = The Hunt. This one was super tricky, but her stubborn nature tends to have her falling into patterns of searching for answers to questions she'll never find. An endless hunt, if you will.

Robin = The Desolation. Themes of loss and destroying where he was raised from the ground up.

Batgirl = The Slaughter. Was brought up as a killing machine, and slowly has to unlearn those violent tendencies over time.

Spoiler = The Buried. REALLY difficult and kind of a stretch, but cage fighting coupled with a theme of wielding a heavy burden might have some potential here.

The Signal = The Vast. Was originally gonna go for the dark, but his light powers didn't work in that context. Instead, his powers are tied to weather and his story has a theme of hope and wonder, which can be twisted into a theme of hopeless infatuation.

I recently read through Aspicio et Fio on ao3 (GO READ IF YOU HAVENT ITS PEAK) and I fear that the batfam x tma worms are now eating away at my brain . .

Okay so I'm mostly gonna make a list in regards to villains/antagonistic characters since I think it's easier but lmk if you want me to wrack my brain for the batfam.

Court Of Owls as a whole = The Eye. Secret organisation with a heavy emphasis on surveillance. Easy pick.

The Joker = The Spiral. Constantly fluctuating design and behaviour, couple with tons and tons of lies. Not even sure if he's real.

Penguin = The Web. Bit of a tough one, but with his themes of chasing power yet always seeming to be a pawn in a higher beings game, the Web fit pretty well.

Riddler = The Eye?? Really tricky one. The best I could think of due to his infatuation with knowledge and intelligence and holding it over people but idk about this one.

Two-Face = The Stranger. While this is a bit of a stretch, I can easily imagine the two sides of Harvey acting as a sort of split theatre mask type of deal.

Catwoman = The Hunt. While she isn't exactly hunting for prey (as in humans or animals), I can imagine her seeing thievery as a sort of cat and mouse hunting game. That and the animal theme.

Firefly = The Desolation. For obvious reasons. Not only does he have an infatuation with artistic tragedy, but, well.... fire.

Harley Quinn = The Spiral. Manipulative and not what she seems, feigning stupidity to lower people's guard. The queen of lies.

Scarecrow = The Dark. Was between that and The End. Quite tricky, since I needed to find the most base level of human fear, which I think is probably fear of the dark or the unknown.

Poison Ivy = The Corruption. A living corpse overrun by plants, flora and fungus that she is synced to physically to the point of feeling pain when someone steps on a flower near her. Pretty self explanatory.

Mad Hatter = The Web. While his motifs are very Spiral-coded, his intense desire for control and ability to hypnotise people speaks for itself.

Red Hood = The End. Basically a zombie that now acts as a harbinger of death.

Rat-catcher = The Corruption. Rats.

Clayface = The Flesh. A body horror nightmare mixed with self-image issues, a perfect fit.

The Ventriloquist = The Stranger. Also kinda speaks for itself (literally, hah).

Ten-Eyed Man = Some mix between The Eye and The Web. Both themes of surveillance and control, as well as a spider motif.

Polka-Dot Man = Mix between The Lonely and The Flesh. Body is experimented on only to be abandoned and isolated after he becomes a metahuman.

Dollmaker = Mix between The Stranger and The Flesh. Human experiments with a fixation on dolls.

Killer Croc = The Buried. Feels trapped by people's fear of him, plus he lives in the sewers which is pretty claustrophobic idk.

Ah, that's because it isn't out yet!!!

I only started this project a year ago, and what with juggling this project with a bunch of other ones in my personal life and getting videos out too, making a comic all by my lonesome is gonna take a lot more time I'm afraid.

Art-wise a few tips I have for generally improving is, first and foremost, finding your artstyle. When you find your artstyle you can begin to decide on what you want to improve on, like if you have a more realistic artstyle trying to study anatomy, or if you have a more cartoonish style looking at things like shape language and dynamic posing! If you're struggling with character design I recommend starting with websites and apps like gacha life or picrew, which can both be really fun and can help with coming up with beta designs before drawing the characters. Most of them don't have much in the way of diversity, but there are some out there that really do.

For a good character to start with, I'm gonna be a bit basic here and say Batman, or whichever character you're choosing to focus on in your story. Designing the main character first can really help you get a sense of the kind of visual style you're going for with the rest of the characters, as you'll be seeing that character the most.

Batgirl: Finsexual (attraction to femininity regardless of gender I think, call me out if I'm wrong)

Spoiler: Pansexual

Batwing: Aroace

The Signal: Gay

Catwoman: Pansexual

The Riddler: Bisexual (preference for men)

Penguin: Gay

Two-Face: Bisexual (because of course)

Harley Quinn: Bisexual

Poison Ivy: Lesbian

Scarecrow: Questioning/Asexual

Mad Hatter: Homophobic
