I’m glad people are finally catching on to the racist shit the Grammys is pulling but I need people to understand why this is happening too: it’s propaganda, capitalism, and white supremacy all working in tandem with one another. There’s a reason music in other languages and/or from nonwhite artists gets put in categories so they can’t receive a top award and it’s 100% to push the status quo of the popular white pop stars who dominate the industry. The industry doesn’t want you, the listener, listening to anything that’s going to make you question society as it is, because as soon as the general public stops hyping up Taylor Swift and her republican fantasy life the industry is going to lose both money and administrative favor. Entertainment is one of the biggest vessels of propaganda especially in the modern day, so in order to uphold the idea that you, the listener, should only care about white, right wing approved pop stars, they start removing pathways for anything that doesn’t fit the vision to climb into public view. It’s why you have bank account draining tours from soulless paper white entertainment giants seemingly advertised everywhere but you gotta be in the know to see live shows from anyone with a skin tone darker than #FFFFFF and/or in a different language. It’s why shows like the Grammys make 300 different boxes to put nonwhite artists in and race based categories. It’s why you don’t hear Spanish songs on the radio, or get laughed at for liking “Thing, Japan” by normal people who don’t even realize they’re helping uphold the propaganda system.
