This is an art news post featuring my friend Kimberley Chakona’s newly published book “NEU OPUS.” I’ve already read the entire book and her poetry is amazingly deep, as her writing has always been. I first met Kimberley here in the WordPress blogging realm and we’ve kept up with each other’s endeavors ever since. She has an incredibly deep mind and creativity level that has always intrigued me. The book is mainly written around the social issues that women of color have faced for centuries, but anyone that loves poetry will love this book. If you’re not a woman of color, you’ll still feel that you understand many of the deep points that Kimberley touches on in her writings. The book also contains artwork of other female artists that the poems inspired. For less than $4 you can purchase the Kindle edition on Amazon. I’m never a salesman, but that’s a steal and you’ll be supporting a great effort and cause.

NEU OPUS – Kimberley Chakona

The featured model in these newly released photos is Maureen Lermer of Ndemela’s Creations. Although she’s not displaying one of her amazing designs in these photos, she creates amazing clothing and sells on her website Ndemela and you can see more on social media: Facebook and Instagram

The grand opening of Worldiction will be very soon and we will keep our motto “A scene, a soul, and an expression” because I believe that summarizes all art and/or it’s inspiration. We will share the art of artists everywhere daily and weekly on the Worldiction Facebook page, Instagram, and elsewhere. This initiative is for you, fellow artists and enthusiasts so please join us in celebrating!

DETROIT— WALK Fashion Show, the Midwest region’s largest fashion show for independent designers hosted their 12th annual Detroit show on Saturday, November 14, 2015 downtown at the Garden Theater in booming Midtown. This year, WALK partnered with Catwalk Fashion, raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and using proceeds from the show to benefit the AIDS Walk Detroit effort. The show produced three different fashion showcases to accommodate the ever-growing number of local designers in the area including the WALK Independent Designer Showcase, WALK Emerging Designer Showcase and WALK University’s Children’s Fashion Show. 1. What is modeling for you? Is it a passion or looked at more as a business objective?

Modeling is bodily art. It’s an expression of art through style and abstract postures. It’s a release, it allows me to be slightly vain when I’m actually very humble about my looks. When I started modeling in 2008, it was solely a passion. But now that I’m older it is a little of both. I love what I do and I enjoy every camera flash of it. If the opportunity arose to be paid I wouldn’t knock it.

2. Worldiction Arts covers the arts in general, so I have to ask: Do you have any other artistic interests and how do you think art affects ourselves and the world around us? Do people really need it?

I am a poetic. I have the lyrical vibes but I’m to shy to express it to the public. Sketching is an almost everyday thing for me. I actually sketch my designs for the new upcoming t-shirt line Queen D Styles.

Art is for everyone. It is a way of life and expression. And it can be done in many ways.

3. Is there any life or spiritual philosophy that you live by?

You know I’ve never thought of it.. because just saying I’m living life is such a cliché and I definitely don’t want that. If I come up with something off the dome it’ll be “live the zen” or my favorite quote from the Disney movie Mulan, “ A flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of them all.”

4. Are there any modeling objectives that you hope achieve in the near and distant future? Or, what’s your modeling bucket list? 

The only goals I have set for myself concerning my modeling is to be figured in a magazine or a billboard in the year 2016. And to be a paid model by the age of 25.

5. What is your favorite piece of art that you ever laid eyes on?

My most recent photo shoot with Worldiction Arts.  (Scott note, while wiping a tear from his eye: “I love this girl! She has good taste!”)
