I can't remember who it was but at some point I saw someone on here say that the reason johnny was probably so good at shopping for him and ponyboy when they ran away together and chose to buy stuff that he knew would last them a while was bc he had or tried to run away before, and that gave me an idea.
Johnny's first meeting w the other greasers happened when he was 14 years old and was planning to run away. He had emptied his backpack of all of his school stuff and packed what few belongings he had and could fit in it instead, js enough to get him to a train going far away from tulsa where he could figure the rest out later. His parents were passed out on the couch and even if they had been awake, it's not like they would care where he went or when he would be back.
He decided to go at sunset since not many ppl would be out by that point and the ppl who were out wouldn't think he was getting up to no good, but his plan backfired when he only made it to the lot ab a block away from his house and heard a group of kids yelling smth that he was too spaced out to pay attention to until one kid started yelling directly to him.
He tried to ignore it at first since he was no stranger to having random kids on the street trying to provoke him, but that proved to be useless bc the other kid js came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. Johnny turned around to snap at the kid who he could now see had light brown hair and green eyes, but he didn't get the chance to before he was having a football literally shoved into his hands and was being asked by the kid if he wanted to play bc they needed at least 7 ppl to have an "actual" match.
Johnny wanted to tell this kid that he didn't have time to play bc he had somewhere he needed to be, but the kid looked pretty young and smth inside johnny made it hard to reject him, so he decided he'd stay and toss the ball around for a few minutes and then leave.
Those "few minutes" turned into an hour and before johnny knew it, the kid who had given him the football in the first place whose name he now knew was "ponyboy" and his older brother sodapop were being told by their oldest brother darrel that it was time to go back inside bc they all had school the next day, which meant that everyone else had to go home too.
Johnny was kind of disappointed bc he rlly was having fun and it was the first time in his life he felt accepted, but that disappointment was short-lived when the tall redhead who the group referred to as "two-bit" threw his arm around johnny's shoulders and told him they were gonna meet up again after school the next day to continue their game if he wanted to join them, to which johnny agreed.
I'm srry but I think ao3 users are being a tad bit dramatic over the prospect of wattpad users moving to the site w nsfw content being banned on theirs to the point that they're forgetting their own "fanfiction etiquette" they're always spouting off ab. "Th-they're not gonna know how to use the tagging system!!", "They're not gonna know how to use the filters!!" So teach them then. "B-But their fics are gonna be badly written!!" In my time on wattpad I've seen many great writers, and even if their fics are badly written, who cares? You shunning them on tt and in the comments of their fics isn't gonna magically make them improve, it takes practice. You guys are treating ao3 like a miniature bookstore instead of a site where ppl who might not be all that into writing but still wanna get smth down on the page spill what goes on in their brain
