The comment about getting his sense of humour had Catriona laughing this time as she flashed her boyfriend a disbelief look. “You’re a huge influence Mr. Bedi…” She then looked down at Lizeth and sighed, “I fear she already has it.” She was a silly toddler and the vet had a feeling that it would only grow from here on out. Noticing that her boyfriend caught her reaction to the effort his parents made, she met his gaze with complete warmth and nodded in understanding, “I see where you get your thoughtfulness from…” she teased as she gave a nod of approval. “See this is why I had a bunch of gifts ready for them…” Remembering the gift baskets in the car that she asked to keep hidden as she planned on giving it to them at the end of the trip. “I appreciate them whole heartedly for hosting and doing all this…It means a lot.”
Hearing Akash’s instructions, Lizeth babbled for a bit before picking out three books for him to read. “Good luck.” Cat teased as she saw her daughter hand it to him before climbing into bed and making herself comfortable. Hearing his thoughts, she nodded in agreement and had a feeling as well that once she’s cuddled up with her stuffed toys and a comfy blanket, she’d knock out instantaneously. “Mmmkays…Sweet dreams princess. Don’t give papa a hard time okay?” Lizeth nodded and beamed happily before shaking her head innocently, “No I’m good! Right papa? Um…You pick please!”
Heading back to their room, Catriona took a quick shower and began her nightly routine before changing into her comfy PJs and getting under the covers to decompress as she spent some time on her phone catching up on any emails, messages and social media. After a few moments, she heard Akash enter the room and waited until he joined her. Once he did, she locked her phone and charged it on the night stand before giving him her undivided attention. “Evening handsome.” she greeted with a smile. “Did she knock out without any effort?” Reaching up to caress his cheek, she then murmured, “Sleepy?”
“I know, it makes me so happy…you have no idea,” Akash grinned at Cat when she admitted that he was a huge influence on little Lizeth. Because while he knew Catriona had other friends who had been a part of Lizeth’s life since the early stages as well—he obviously wanted to have a special space in her life, one he was working on building for himself. “It’s a very good thing, don’t be scared of it,” he told his lady love with a casual wink before noting the way she was looking around the guest room and grinning as he looked back at her. “It’s true, they’ve shaped me into who I am. Lucky for them and us I guess…my hard life as a lawyer didn’t mess that up,” he chuckled before nodding at her words and shaking his head. “They’re seeing you both as family now Cat, so they’re truly so ecstatic to have you here,” he told her with a smile before being pulled back by little Lizeth.
“We’ll be great,” he told Catriona with a grin before climbing into bed with her and holding the books out, ready to start reading. “You are very good baby, always.” He told their little princess before looking back at Catriona and blowing her a kiss. He’d see her in a little while and so as soon as the door shut, he got right into reading with Lizeth, loving how she was summarizing the story in her own way as well. Her imagination truly blew him away and he was just so happy to be able to witness her growing each and every day, developing that sparkling personality.
By the time he’d finished the first book, Lizeth was already sleeping with her eyes closed, fists wrapped around one of the little stuffed bears and breathing evenly. Akash couldn’t resist the smile on his face as he bent forward, his lips pressed against her forehead before he snapping a quick picture of that serenity on her face. He’d hesitantly tip-toed out of the guest room and made his way over to his old room, slipping inside and giving her a smile when he caught her looking so perfectly content in bed. “Hi beautiful,” he murmured before taking a seat next to her, still needing to get changed before he joined her. “She did—we barely got through the first book,” he told Catriona with a light laugh. “I’m okay—just tired from the drive so I’ll take a quick shower and join you in a few. Don’t be like our daughter and fall asleep before I have a chance to properly say good night, okay?”
