This is a story that shouldn't have happened.

Desperation, That's all it took. Funny, isn't it?

Infinite timelines mean infinite possibilities, that meant that in one of them.. The human could be stopped, right? … All that wasn't accounted for was the infinite possibilities of mistakes to be made.

Resets were too frequent, though Sans could not recall them, he could feel something was wrong. Days blending into each other, a few deja vus, thinking to have done chores that haven't even been tasked to him yet… It all kept changing, yet one thing remained consistent.

That… Thing.

Everyone seemed to call it a human, looked just like how the lady behind the door would describe them too… But Sans knew deep down that wasn't a human. Whatever that was, it was responsible. And no matter what, It would keep coming back.

No matter how many times it was killed, no matter how many times it killed everyone, it kept coming back.

As if it was nothing but a game for it.. After a point, Sans questioned if that really was the truth.

Sans questioned if there was even a point, he knew that thing was stronger than he could ever be.. … or was it?

Research began at the Royal Scientists lab, an old friend helped Sans come up with ways of getting stronger, they tried to avoid it but it all led to one conclusion.

Gaining LV.

That or injecting himself with determination, but that was off the table.

Until killing wasn't enough.

Sans and Alphys decided to keep it as humane as they could, taking in monsters that had fallen down so Sans could deliver the final blow and gain LV without brutalizing the innocent. But there were only so many monsters falling down and so many families who trusted the Royal Scientist with their relatives.

Even if there were, it was nowhere near enough XP to go against the thing.

He knew it wasn't enough when he woke up in his bed with an unexplicable sharp pain in his chest.

..He decided to go further, killing monsters in secluded areas who he knew didn't have a family or even some who volunteered to be killed by him and not the "human" roaming the underground.. ..But Alphys couldn't allow that, as much as he tried to stay hidden, she had eyes everywhere.. And the always stopped him before he would start getting enough LV. Looking back, Sans wishes he had listened to her, He explained it were only means to an end, would it be so bad if a few monsters had to die for a greater cause?

Alphys knew it would get worse, she became desperate.

..Desperation is all it took for her to suggest plan B. Determination she had extracted from a soul.

At that point, Sans didn't care, he agreed.

But it didn't help. They thought nothing happened until Sans was killed and woke up in his bed with faint memories of the battle. He was starting to see past his own timeline. That was enough to devise a plan, one he wouldn't forget even if a reset happened. It was foolproof.

After many tries, he came up with a plan that would allow him to get stronger, but that came with something he's been avoiding even thinking of until now.. Killing someone he knew.

Alphys had eyes everywhere, But no one would be able to stop Sans if there were no eyes anymore.

The plan was simple, kill and gain all the LV the thing was supposed to get, leaving none for it. Maybe the innability to do anything would cause them to stop? To just reset and try another route.. That's what Sans hoped it would happen.

The thing only grew frustrated at the plan, resetting over and over. And with that, resetting Sans's progress too. It got to a point where the order was just as natural as putting one foot in front of the other to walk.

The scientist would be killed first. After that Papyrus would be killed in their home. Not scared, not in battle, but peaceful and happy, painless. Then, the robot, to avoid the news spreading. After that, the Royal Guards, so evacuation wasn't an option. The head of the Royal Guard, then smaller monsters, then the king… And wait for the thing to be judged.

It went on over and over… Over and over… Over and over, until he didn't see himself as Sans anymore.. He was simply the JUDGE.

…Until none of it was fun anymore for the thing. What was the point of resetting if the Judge would just steal all of it's LV? Even if it tried a different route, by the time it left the Ruins, the ground would be filled with dust mixing itself with the snow.

So they simply quit, but that wasn't something Judge could do. He couldn't just close a game window and move on, no. That was his reality. And without the thing resetting, he was stuck there… Waiting for it's return on a barren Underground, Alone.

Hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months turning into years. Alone.
