âEnby is infantilizingâ okay, cool, I wonât call you enby if you donât like it
But enby was created bc nb meant/means non-black. Poc use nb in that way. Enby was never meant to be infantilizing, it was always intended as a nonbinary version of the word boy/girl. Infantilizing things are intentional.
As a Black agender nonbinary PoC, it makes me kinda uncomfortable to see people use ânbâ to mean ânonbinaryâ (esp. when people refuse to stop), and it causes some confusion when youâre part of both the Black community and the nonbinary community.
If you donât like âenbyâ as an alternative term, hereâs a few other alternatives to ânbâ Iâve come up with or have seen:
Nonb
Enbe
Enbee
Bee
Personally, I think âenbeâ would be the easiest to change over to since itâs so close to âenbyâ but looks less like the word âbabyâ (which is why people think âenbyâ is infantilizing). Please consider using another term than ânbâ to support your fellow nonbinary pals of color đ
Iâve come up with enbin as an adult version of enby, but yours are great too :00
I also wanna add these alternatives:
Nby
Nonbi
Enbi
Nbe
Nbee
Also, it seems that 'enbyâ is still the most commonly used (besides 'nbâ of course :/ ). That said, since this post was made, Iâve seen 'nonbâ be used a lot more, which is great for those who didnât like âenbyâ! đ
ive also seen -nonbin -neu -n-b
This might just be a me problem, but I wouldnât use 'n-bâ either because 'non-Blackâ is often written with the hyphen in it, so it could cause a lot of confusion. It also just makes me uncomfy because itâs basically 'nbâ anyway. But like I said, that might just be me; I havenât talked to any Black enbies about that specific alternative.
