Maid Marian

he has to clear his throat again because the tightness has suddenly made it difficult to speak. what she’s saying should be impossible. but then again, so should her return, yet here she was, having this impossible conversation with him. there’s a sudden sting in his eyes and he does his best to push it resolutely away. there’s still so much to say, he can’t cry now. softly, he shakes his head.

If it was anyone else but him, she would have been frightened, she would have denied the notion. It seemed so impossible that she had dreams of a past life. She stared at him, trying to grasp at what he was implying. Though the more she thought about it, the more she remembered how very real the dreams felt, the more she began to slowly believe. 

“...but if..what you say is true..”she paused licking her lips, staring up at him. She grasped to remember every bit of her dreams, to remember every last detail, though her mind was so scattered. She tried to think of one particular moment, a question she could ask to see if he knew the answer. One that wouldn’t be in the stories.

      ❝ you have more kindness in your little          finger than most people do in their          entire bodies. ❞

                                    fandral could feel his heart soaring in his chest. the only better news he could piossibly imagine getting was that she remembered him from their past. but he knew how impossible that was, so he didn’t let it burden him. instead he let himself be joyous in this moment. the woman he loves is pregnant with a child he will no doubt adore. there is much to be joyous about. 

Marian smiled up at him, letting herself fully relax and let herself be happy over the fact that she was pregnant. She had always wanted children, and she honestly felt that Fandral would be a fantastic father now that she knew he was willing to stay. He was so kind, warm, and knew how to make someone feel safe. 

“You think they will?” She asked curiously, she had only met them a few times. They seemed like quite the amazing group of warriors, though it was clear to see that they were like a family. At the mention of her own, she grew quiet, and her smile fading. “I have not.. they will not be happy...They are an old family stuck in very traditional ways.. I will be undoubtedly disowned and kicked out onto the streets, like they did to my cousin.” 

as she tucked into his chest, he pulled he rin with one arm while his other hand went up to pet the back of her head in soothing strokes. 

     ❝ i’m here, ❞ he assured to her ‘thank you,’         pressing a soft kiss to her temple. he         pulled his head back just a little so he         could look at her at the request for a story. 

Marian felt safe in his arms, and she found it easier to calm herself down after such a horrid nightmare.  She could never really quite understand it, but she  felt like she belonged in Fandral’s arms. It was a silly thought, but she couldn’t bring herself to care at the moment. 

he’s shaking his head as she rambles because it’s- it’s beyond ridiculous. even if she were crazy, even if some bizarre universe she wasn’t right for him, he could NEVER leave her. he simply couldn’t. not after all these years, finally having her back and in his arms, he couldn’t possibly. his heart is tied inextricably to hers and to leave her would mean to tear it out and leave it behind with her. he is about to tell her this when what she says halts him in his metaphorical tracks. marian and robin. she had memories of marian and robin. she dreamt of memories of THEM. he feels his heart stutter in his chest and even still when she mentions her own death, his throat tightens.

She had expected him, or rather hope that he would think she was  crazy, that he would cast her aside. So that she could finally spare  him. It was the only thing she could think to do, and yet there he  stood wanting to know more. The man was quite frankly out of his mind, and.. perfect. She hated it sometimes, how much he cared and how well they seemed to fit together. It made all of this so much harder. 

She stood there staring up at him, trying to figure out what he wanted  to know more. Though the more she stared at him, the more her mind began to wander, to notice just how much he looked like the Robin of  her dreams. Maybe that had been what had attracted her to him in the first place. She pushed those thoughts away, not daring to admit that  there was even a chance that her dreams had been real, that she was actually some fictional character that was read to children from a story book. 

he listened to the story of her first love with a little smile. a bad boy. somehow, he was unsurprised. but he sighed a little at her question, glancing down at his hands. how did he talk about her to her…?

Marian stayed quiet as she listened to him tell her about the woman he use to love. It didn’t take a genius to realize how much this woman had to have meant to him. There  was a part of her that so desperately wanted to ask what  had happened to her, though she didn’t. She wasn’t jealous of the other woman, she understood and accepted that he was bound to have been with others before they had met.

                                     he was glad his exuberance seemed to lift her spirits as well. he couldn’t stand to see her so melancholy. not for a thing that should be so joyous. for his part, he knew he could not be happier. his hands remained holding her slight frame, as if she’d disappear should he let her go, and his grin remained steadfast on his lips. 

Marian found herself looking up with him, in awe of his excitement. There was a huge part of her that was simply relieved that he was so willing to stay. She would of course have found a way to raise the baby on her own if he had ran. However, she was glad she would at least have him, the thought of loosing made her sick to her stomach. Without even realizing it she had become rather dependent on him.
