Youâre not depressed. You just need $250,000 in your bank account.
Reblog to materialize $250,000 in prev's bank account
i miss s5 cas he was so bitchy and intense and badass and autistic. he never blinked and he talked to dean from 3 inches away and he was rebelling against heaven and he branded enochian on his friends ribs and he found a liquor store and he drank it and he absolutely wrecked shop in knife fights and he carved banishing sigils into his own ribs and he called raphael his bitch and he ate a million cheeseburgers and he never understood references and i love him so so so much <3
âYou donât have to burn books to destroy a culture. You just have to get people to stop reading them.â âRay Bradbury.
In so many ways we do inch closer and closer to living in the reality of Fahrenheit 451 each day. In a stupid and likely accidental way, OP is right about reading audiobooks being a skill. But rather than dumbing down audiobooks, just fucking hone the skill. Honestly. Not everything has to be tailored to the lowest common denominator. Either audiobooks arenât for you or you do the work to be able to handle the extra âcognitive loadâ (which I guess just means paying attention ???)
I always considered listening to an audiobook to be the same as reading because it does require a similar amount of attention, albeit a different kind. Just admit you donât want to dedicate the time and attention to learning and move on. Donât advocate for simplifying something that doesnât need to be simplified. If you want some dumbass podcast to spoonfeed you garbage you barely pay attention to then do that, but donât be mad when you are dumber for it.
my advice for people who want to hone in their skills as an active audiobook listener is to start with rereading old favorites and children's or ya books. old favorites are a great place to start because if you miss something, you still know the story. this was how i got into audiobooks, i listened to the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy. it takes time to develop this skill and starting with books that are easier to comprehend, have a faster pace, and have easy to understand worldbuilding, often found in childrens lit, is a great way to build that skill set.
audiobooks dont need to be changed, you can build the skillset yourself.
My advice is dont be afraid to mess with the speed. Personally i find most readers of audiobooks to talk way way slower then the aberage every day speach im used to hearing from my daily life and it makes it difficult for my brain to latch on to whats being read. Try turning up the playback speed until it dounds like your friend telling you a story about their day. That helps me a lot! I started at 1.25x speed but as I got kore and more familiar with listening to audiobooks I have now cranked it all the way up to 1.8x. Find what works for you!

you were almost turned into a vampire, but before you could be fully turned, the vampire was staked. This left you with a vampire weakness, while still being human.
Spin the wheel to find out your weakness!
How much does this effect you?
Nothing changes
It's inconvenient but I can deal with jty
It will be hard to adjust but I'll figure it out
I don't know if I'll be able to live like this
Maybe I can find another vampire to finish the turning?
I might just kill myself

thanks @theemmjay for submitting this poll idea!! Seriously it's such a cool concept I love it so much
Hey guys can anyone help explain what the hell the penumbra podcast is? I know thereâs like multiple plots and stuff but itâs honestly feeling scary to start right now and Iâd like to give it a go so if anyone can sort of idiot proof the explaining of how to listen/what is going on I would appreciate it so much thank you <3
The Penumbra Podcast is a team that hosts three shows (and like, two standalone single episode stories), all published on the same feed: Juno Steel, Second Citadel, and Thirst.
Iirc the team originally intended to be more anthology-like, but got enamored by two of the worlds they had created so they dove into telling those stories instead. That's Juno Steel and Second Citadel. Their release alternated, one month of Juno Steel then a month of Second Citadel, for about 5 years. Both shows are complete. TPP's third show, Thirst, is relatively new and ongoing. It started releasing summer last year and it's at 23 episodes now.
How to listen: my advice would be to pick one show and listen to that start to finish. Then try another if the themes speak to you, etc.
Juno Steel: Space scifi noir, queerness is normalized but capitalism rules the galaxies. Deals with themes of addiction, self destruction, gay yearning, found family, did I mention capitalism is kinda bad actually, corruption. Second Citadel: Fantasy/fairytale setting exploring the institute of knighthood as policing: abuse of power, ableism, misogyny, murder of minorities, genocide, war, high stakes/end of the world. Thirst: Terminal velocity capitalism is bad and the world has kind of ended, let's make a dating show about it to get people's minds off the water shortage. Don't worry if someone looks to be murdered on screen, AI is so convincing these days isn't it
totally your choice, but as someone who loves penumbra, I personally recommend just listening in release order and accepting the weird stand alones and the alternating between the two stories. the finales of both shows line up with each other. its fun to hear voice actors from one show show up in another. you can hear the quality get better and better. and u give ur emotions a break from one plotline to focus on the other. but again, your call. if you are only going to commit to one story, def do the juno-verse. juno's story line changed me as a person. I will never recover.
I feel like in addition to teaching Eridian kids, Grace would also be working with Erid's scientists to design interstellar probes to deliver Taumoeba to all "infected" systems in the stellar neighborhood.
A combination of Eridian engineering with human computing.
After delivering its payload to a system's Petrova Line, the probe would stick around in orbit around the CO2-rich planet. Because it also carries with it a message encoded in such a way to be decipherable by any sufficiently intelligent species.
The message explains about Astrophages and the probe's purpose, as well as information about Erid, Earth, and where to find them. It also includes instructions on how to harvest Astrophages and build an interstellar engine with them, along with instructions on other useful technology from both Erid and Earth.
Because "save stars" doesn't mean just the Sun and 40 Eridani. It means all stars.
don't EVER let softcore gay porn convince you that it's okay to play sports. It's not okay to play sports

Matthew Lillard and Angelina Jolie as âCereal Killerâ and âAcid Burnâ in Hackers (1995)
previously unseen genders in human history
"character deserved better" (but they were never going to get it that's the stuff great tragedies are made of) vs "character deserved better" (but the writers really blew it)
I forget straight people have a really bad habit of using top/bottom to mean dom/sub until Iâm talking to someone who calls a women in a m/f relationship a âtopâ and they get mad at me because I think they meant sheâs pegging the guy. Apparently they mean sheâs just kinda mean and controlling in bed. This is like the 3rd time this year this has happened.
Being into m/f ships is hard because you will look up âTop [women] Bottom [man]â and all the posts will be incorrectly tagged dombottom women/subtop guy and if you ask people to correctly tag stuff you are the bad guy. I want to her fucking him in his hole!!
BWHAHAHHAHA
Love the idea of aroacespec Grace and too-busy-being-dictator-to-entertain-the-thought Stratt not noticing even a little bit that they act too familiar. The Vatt sees Stratt steering Grace somewhere with a hand on the small of his back and go "đđ" meanwhile the two of them are just like "ah yes very efficient for navigating crowds quickly :)". Early-apocalyptic qpr of all time
but there actually are some social cues that can be taught. like the obvious one is when someone says âhow are youâ they usually mean âfriendly noiseâ and are not actually asking how you are, although some people ARE genuinely asking how you are and itâs usually up to the context of your relationship to determine the difference
also that apparently âwhen you get a chanceâ usually means âwhen you take a break from the thing youâre immediately doingâ and not âon a list among various other things you are doing today or tomorrowâ
and when someone says âiâll let you get goingâ they mean âplease leaveâ
oh and you have to learn to weaponize âthank you for your understandingâ. which means âthere is nothing you can do about this so accept itâ

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
