DID SOMEBODY MENTION HISTORY *swoops*
(Is this still necessary? I donât care, Iâm in a frivolous research mood)
First of all, I love the internet, here is a load of people arguing about the merits of piano vs harpsichord.Â
Hereâs a list of classical-era musical instruments which might be of use
Hereâs a source of unknown reliability lol on Ancient Egyptian instruments
Here are some Middle Eastern instruments, for Khalila, or for Wolfe too. Iâd say.Â
Ok so, time for my ideas anyway âŚ
Wolfe plays at least three instruments, with skill. One has a keyboard (piano?). He hasnât played in years but gets back to it post-series.
Keyed instrument. Assuming keys and strings?? Like a piano?? Ok. So. We have this very interesting Wikipedia article on the oldest form of keyed instrument, the water organ; plz pay attention to section about the Ancient Greek Alexandrian invention hydraulis. I vote that even though I know very little about it, because I am a fucking history fetishist and like âthe oldest thingâ. Other options include piano, organ, harpsichord, and clavichord. This is a useful detailed article on the historical instruments. Many more options on Wikipedia:
2. I know youâve had Wolfe playing the guitar before - go for it! Fun etymology:
The English word guitar, the German Gitarre, and the French guitare were all adopted from the Spanish guitarra, which comes from the Andalusian Arabic ŮŮ؍اع؊ (qÄŤthÄrah)[4] and the Latin cithara, which in turn came from the Ancient Greek κΚθΏĎÎą. Kithara appears in the Bible four times (1 Cor. 14:7, Rev. 5:8, 14:2 and 15:2), and is usually translated into English as harp.
Note: an awwwwful lot of the history of the guitar seems to be Spanish. Do or do not do with that what you will.Â
I would personally be more tempted to go for the lute, but thatâs because, as previously mentioned, I glom onto old things. Ooh, or this? Or the oud. Shut up, Maz. Â
3. So we have guitar and piano. What about the flute, to round things out a little?
Khalila plays a couple things herself, though sheâs quite out of practice by now.
KHALILA PLAYS THE HARP i donât make the rules
Flute here too? Arabic flute here.Â
Thomas plays one instrument very well.
I feel like Thomas is a piano kind of man. Delicate fingering. On the other hand, heâd have the lungs for a blow-y thing. Trumpet for Thomas?!!? Or double bassoon?? help I canât decide.Â
Paging the Thomas specialist @scholar-mayâ
Nic plays one instrument rather badly.
I neeeeeed this to be some kind of stringed instrument. Itâs so easy to be awful on something like a violin. Also, apparently the violin family is Italian in origin!
