ROUGH  FINGERS  SCRUB  AT  THE  LAST  LAYER  of  soap  on  the  mans  exploited frame  ,  letting  every  sud  mask  the  scent  composed  from  days  he’s spent  out  the  house  ––  yet  amber  irises  remain  laced  with  carmine  veins  &  sable  bags  stay  underneath  heavy  lids .  sage  climbs  out  the  bath  ,  movements  slow  as  he  silently  dries  himself  off  to  slip  on  a  clean  tee  and  a  pair  of  gray  sweats  ;  unbothered  by  the  consequences  of  wearing  such  without  anything  underneath .  plans  for  a  quiet  night  are  disrupted  with  the  sudden  self - awareness  of  the  mess  he’s  allowed  his  bedroom  to  become  :  clothes  &  kicks  strewn  across  the  floor  ,  a  pile  of  magazines  that  had  toppled  off  the  chest  of  drawers  that  he’d  never  bothered  to  pick  up .  the  bedside  table  is  littered  with  empty  pill  bottles  &  overlapping  ring  stains  from  his  regular  nightcap .  he’s  motivated  now  in  a  sense  that  being  cooped  in  his  home  isn’t  what  he’s  after  ,  keys  &  wallet  already  in  hand  as  he  goes  to  open  the  front  door  with  cool  liquid  still  dripping  over  the line  of  his  brow .  it’s  nearly  been  two  weeks  ,  sage  realizes  ,  since  he’s  seen  the  thief  usually  caught  beside  him  ,  reverently  delving  into  whatever  schematics  the  brunet  had  domineered  and  he  nearly  mentally  applauds  him  for  keeping  his  final  word  .  nearly applauds .  he  stops  the  natural  jerk  reaction  at  the  sudden  sight  of  someone  at  his  doorstep  in  the  middle  of  the  night ----  rio , specifically  ,  mid - knock  with  inked  knuckles  curled  in  the  air ,  expression  just  as  filled  with  intent .  clearly  ,  they  were  both  just  as  fuckin  bad  as  the  other .  a  lopsided  smile  already  edges  upon  mangled  features  ,  craving  one  of  rio’s  ' not a fuckin word ‘  glares  as  a  sign  to  push  further .  it  was  a  look  he  hadn’t  ever  received  from  him  in  a  genuine  sense .  they  had  called  off  whatever  this  was  plenty  of  times  before  ,  moreso  by  rio  in  terms  that  he  was  in  need of  something  better  than  what  was  given  to  him .  something  less harmful .  less  sharp  around  the  edges  ,  a  sweet  mouth  instead  of  the  one  that  left  blunt  marks  in  the  color  of  his  tattoos .  but  faces  fell  with  true  purpose  before  such  arguments  could  properly  seal .  the conclusion  was  ,  as  always ,  predictable . once  an  addict  always  an  addict .  ❛  junkie , ❜  he  muses  as  he  reads  him  over  ,  more  to  himself  than  company . 

HE  KNOWS  FOR  A  FACT  THAT  THE  brunette’s  head  is  shoved  underneath  another  basic  model  ,  probably  a  soccer  van  if  he  wanted  to  conjure  up  something  risible .  most  likely  than  not  ridden  with  problems  you’d  see  throughout  any  commercialized  garage  :  in  need  of  a  new  tire  or  perhaps  an  oil  change .  and  it  should’ve  been  kept  at  that  ,  peaceful  clangs  with  the  occasional  zip  of  power  tools  piecing  together  modern  parts .  for  this  hour  ,  it  seemed  the  gods  had  other  plans  for  cass  , what  with  the  spitfire  engine  that  echoed  through  the  main  lot  and  the  familiar  lilt  in  voice  as  it  asked  for  a  mechanic  in  particular .  the  source  of  it  all  rolls  up  slowly  until  he’s  mere  feet  from  her  ,  hood  pulled  over  his  head  &  left  hand  lazily  hanging  over  the  handle  bars  of  the  ducati  –––  paint  chipped  &  plate  nearly  scratched  out  ,  almost  absent  of  any  identification .  he  already  imagines  the  pointed  look  that  pinches  her  features  together  and  waves  one  hand  off  like  the  picture  at  hand  isn’t  worth  overthinking .  ❛  fore’  you  start  yellin’  and  pull  a  hamstring ,  i  didn’t  jack  it .  ❜  the  shades  that  line  the  slope  of  sages  nose  are  pushed  up  until  they’re  perched  along  the  fine  hairs  at  his  head  ,  leaning  back  just  a  tad  and  shrugging  up  a  shoulder .  ❛  but  let’s  say  i  did .  what’s  worse ,  me  stealin  it  or  you  thinkin  i  did  and  still  not  callin  the  fuzz  ?  ❜  the  question  is  for  pure  amusement  &  the  answer is  obvious .  has  been  since  day  one  but  it’s  a  tug - of - war  kind  of  game  that  sends  their  jaws  snapping  back  and  forth  until  they’re  aching  ,  an  easy  win  on  the  days  she  became  vexed  by  the  simple  mention  of  his  name .
