I have reached the outmost limit of tolerance I have for my college works that I didn’t even know I could bear for this long, so I’ve decided to go back to my abandoned gateaway which is to write. i haTE IT WHEN I’M STARTING TO FALL FOR SOMEONE THAT I CAN’T STOP SMILING AND THINKING ABOUT HIM AND MUTTERING HIS NAME AND I JUST—

It’s not like I’m breaking up with you.

“What was that?”

“I won’t be coming home tonight,” he repeats his words as if it didn’t hurt just enough the first time “There’s a little change in plan and I’m afraid there’s not much we can do about it. We have to stay for another couple of days, a week at the longest,”

Silence.

As much as you hate to be a clingy girlfriend and as much as you could careless about it, you’d expect the presence of your boyfriend on your birthday that’s waiting right by the end of the week. As if the months of separation wasn’t enough to torture you in loneliness, you thought the best cure would be to have him on one of the most occasion of the year.

Perhaps, you’ve thought wrong.

“Is it really that crucial? I mean, you’ve been gone for months,” you say in a low whisper, afraid that he might get this the wrong way “I’ve missed you,”

He sighs, “I feel the same way but its a matter of the group’s renown. I can’t just ditch,”

“Well, perhaps I could help and talk it out. Maybe I can talk to your manager and—,”

“What’s with you and being so clingy today?” he shots straight ahead, annoyance evident on his tone “I thought we agree to never intervene each other’s business, especially our personal careers,”

“I didn’t mean to sound clingy or anything—I just thought—,”

“You know how the band is in its fittest position right now. I won’t dare to do anything that might harm us,” 

“I know, I didn’t mean to—,”

“Look, I’m really tired and you’re obviously not the only one upset with the sudden change of schedule here,” he sighs long, sounding really tired from the other side of the phone “It’s just gonna be a couple more days, nothing we haven’t went through before. Besides, it’s not like I’m breaking up with you,”

His last words struck you like a lightning. Was it really what he was aiming for? To break up with you?

“I-I just—,”

“I need to hang up,” he cuts in “Bye,”

You were left staring at space with mouth agape, surprised at his oddly action.

Birthdays don’t give that much of butterflies to your stomach— not as much as anniversaries, perhaps. But it would be a lie to say that you don’t look forward for it. It’s one of the rarest times that you could encircle yourself with the people that cares for you, and if he won’t be able to make an appearance, a big hollow would be engraved on that day for sure.

To make it worse, never have he ever cut your words before— not even on the small arguments you both had after a 2 years of ongoing relationship. Not to mention, to hung a call without ending it by saying ‘I love you,’—

Was he really aiming for a break up?

It’s been days since he gave you the unpleasant notice and for that long too, he’s been out of your reach. Perhaps, the busy schedules were eating him alive. Yet, it would never hurt to send a short text each day, right?

Finding yourself drowning in the sadness and horrid scenarios, you accept your best mates invitation for a cup of tea. Perhaps, surrounding and busying yourself with the outside world might take your mind off of him for a minute or two.

“I hate to break it down to you, but when a guy cuts in your words and complain about the little things you do, they are most certainly about to call the relationship off, ___,” you friend says as she washes you with a pitiful look, right after you told them what happened “I’m sorry,”

“I didn’t— I just don’t know what went wrong, you know?” you ask aloud, frustrated “One night he was nothing but the usual, loving and sweet as he’s always been, but the following morning he acts like he’s been having such anchor burdening his heart for a long time. How can someone change that fast over a night?”

Your other friend shrugs, “Maybe it’s just the stress. You know how crazy life of an idol could be,”

You nod slowly, agreeing yet still unsatisfied.

The group continues with the chatter as you try to kick yourself out of it by staring into spaces. You just can’t seem to figure what went wrong. Was there an invisible thread out that were pulled so that you both went apart? Did this happen for a long time right under your nose? Could it be that he’s fallen out of the muse? 

What is it?

Which is it?

Noticing your silence, your closest friend rests a hand atop of yours, giving a light squeeze as she tries to cheer you, “Don’t let it bother you too much,”

“I can’t,” you mutter honestly “How could I push it aside when its my relationship we’re talking about. My relationship that’s hanging right on the edge without me having any idea how to fix it,”

Tears were forming on your eyes and you could see the regret you friend has on her eyes for bringing the topic up to the table— even when you’re still thinking about it in silence. What could be so wrong with you and your relationship?

“Honey,” your other friend says, pulling you for a hug “I’m sure things would turn well by the end of the day. You deserve the best you could ever receive,”

You sob in her embrace, “I know what I want, I just don’t know what went wrong with it,”

After playing the strong card for God knows how long, you finally have a breakdown. It’s been very overwhelming— too overwhelming for you to figure out alone — that the hard shell eventually breaks. 

What went wrong, really?

The happy day finally arrives. The beeping of your alarm sounds like the long blow of nightmare-like call instead of the cue for a happy jingle. The day would run so painfully slow and dull today, you were sure of it.

Figuring that you’re still out of this world after how uninvolved you are with your daily businesses, your friends engaged you for a pleasuring distraction by visiting the beach— one of the few places you find most peace at. A couple of closes fellas were in presence and are at their best effort to curl your lips up for a mere smile.

Yet still, sometimes all you need isn’t the quantity of attention— it needs just that one person to inject your soul back to its place.

After hours of spending delightful time by the beach, you and your friends head back to your apartment. The effort they made was tremendous and it sure did help you to feel alive— yet still, it wasn’t enough.

“Thanks for today guys, it really did mean a lot for me,”

“Don’t mention it,” you friend says with her car stopping right in front of your apartment “It’s the least we could do for the birthday girl,”

You flash a mere smile.

“The night’s still young, ___. Have some faith,” your other friend encourages “You won’t believe what surprise it might give in the end,”

“Yeah, well, I don’t think faith could fix my broken relationship,”

Your friend shrugs casually, “Well, you’ll never know,”

Bidding another goodbye, you finally find yourself walking up the stairs of your apartment. The hallways feel even more empty than it had ever before. Perhaps, with your friends gone, your spirit would defuse too.

At least some of them still remember..

Your flat was as dark as the night once you step in. You could’ve sworn that you turned the automated setting for the night lamps to turn on by 7 o’clock. It’s past 10 now and to have your place this dim is quite—

“Surprise!”

The lights suddenly turn back on, so is your close friends that are coming out of their hiding places. Confetti was filling the air, cheers were aloud heard and a happy smile is inevitably craved on your face.

“Happy birthday, Sweetheart,” your bestfriend says as she prays some string spray at you.

“Thank you,” you say with a bit of laughter “You guys are too sweet,”

“Not sweet enough,” your other friend commented “Not without a cake, that is,”

From the kitchen, a figure came with an unsliced cake by his hands. His tall and lean figure was more than enough to tell you who the person is— making you to burst in tears.

“Happy birthday, Love,” he says with that signature smile of his, looking at like you like you’re the most precious value in his life “Sorry to ruin your past few days. I didn’t know you love me that much,”

You let out a teary chuckle, “You doubted my feelings?”

“No, not at all,” he says quick “I just didn’t expect the plan to turn this serious. If you were to blame anyone, blame {Y/BFF/N} because she’s the one that came up with the idea. I was totally against it at first,”

“Alright, can we cut the talk and let the princess blow her candles first?” your bestfriend cuts in “You both can discuss your revenge to me later,”

You crack a smile, a genuine one that your cheeks were hurting from it.

Whispering your wish that doesn’t run far from hoping that moments like this would happen much more frequent, you blow the candles softly. Your friends cheered, spraying you with more strings and foam once the plan turns into a total success.

“Happy birthday, Princess,” your boyfriend says once more before planting a kiss to your forehead “I love you,”

Also, i wanted to ask any of you who are reading this for a relationship advice { sort of }. You see, i suppose i’m starting to fancy this one boy and i’ve been trying to start chatters with him. problem is, one of his best mates used to be someone i was supposed to date with { this dude turns out to be a total arse, ugh } and since they are as close as honey and bee, i’m afraid the boy i’m crushing for would hesitate to continue our strings do to the bro code. what should i do?
