Walking underground between the L and the 1 trains I passed a redhead sitting in the passage holding a cardboard sign: "No job. HIV positive. Desperate." From the other direction a girl in a railroad stripe jumpsuit with a fedora over her platinum bleached pixie cut, glittered with piercings approached him. She smiled and kissed him on the forehead next to a lesion. I assumed they knew one another but as she had leaned in to place her lips on him the look on his face made me question. I turned back to see if they were talking but she was following a few paces behind me. He called out "thank you!" after her. I turned back, and my eyes filled.
