estrogen drives certain types of cancers like prostate and breast cancer. it signals the cells to grow, cyclically, sometimes exponentially depending on the type and location. many people who get these cancers have to take powerful estrogen-suppressing medications to stand a chance at surviving on top of whatever other treatments they receive (radiation, chemo, surgery)

far from neutral it’s a powerful chemical signaler and under the right circumstances, can throw your body out of homeostasis and eventually kill you
