Photography is a huge passion of mine. I started my photography journey around 6-7 years ago. It’s been an amazing addition to my Makeup work. I just love photographing all different topics. I do a lot of shoots to also help my students build their makeup portfolios. For this particular shoot, I was thrilled to be asked to do the imagery for @panpanbridal new bridal dress collection. This was held at the fantastic @prestonfieldhouseedinburgh As I was doing the photography this meant the makeup was free to go to one of my students: this is a huge perk to training with me in makeup. I pass my graduates so much work which really helps you start your business on step 10 instead of step 1. Are you adding creative/beauty work to your portfolio? This shows you have a diverse range of makeup skills, prospective client’s love to see this. A lot of clients I secure book me after seeing this type of work in my portfolio. They say to me, “if you can create that type of work then bridal will be a breeze”. A lot of my brides like to see what other work I create. Another huge plus point is that when you create creative looks, you are constantly pushing yourself and your skill set. This goes a long way into MAKING YOU A BETTER MAKEUP ARTIST You have to keep pushing your skill set, DO NOT STAY STOOD STILL. Others will push right past you. HOLIDAY TIME - OUT OF OFFICE..... After an absolutely mental few months with business, I am so excited to be leaving the makeup brushes behind to have 11 nights away, back up to where we got married @glentruim_estate , we are thrilled to be able to spend our first wedding anniversary where we tied the knot in 2020. GOOD & BAD ALCOHOLS IN SKINCARE... Over the years I have learnt a lot about skincare, going through bad times with my own skin and helping clients get better skin. I have had to delve into ingredients, what they do, which ones are good and which ones to avoid. Today I want to share with you some useful information on alcohols. Now not all alcohols are bad for your skin. Actually, fatty alcohols can be very good for your skin. Let me break this down for you – THE BAD – Alcohol Denat – So drying for the skin and strips the natural oils from the skin AVOID (So many skincare items have this in, double check) Alcohol Isopropyl Alcohol ethanol Alcohol Methanol Check your ingredients and if any of these are listed near the top of the list, get rid and replace with something better for your skin. These ingredients reduce the skins protective barrier, which means your skins ability to keep moisture in reduces. These bad alcohols are also used as preservatives, yuk. They are quite frankly very aging for the skin. Dryness is a huge concern with these alcohols too. These bad alcohols also make oily skin worse. So which alcohols are good for you – THE GOOD Alcohol Cetyl Alcohol Stearly Alcohol Cetearly Fatty alcohols come from vegetables and are great for the skin. They help hold products together. These alcohols actually help protect the skin and keep moisture in. A lot of the Dermalogica items I use includes these fatty alcohols. They have really helped my dry areas. Fresh skin, not overly highlighted (I hate that look) browns, golds, little burnt orange and plum and sometimes pink (which is what I have on today @bodyography pink pigment ) on the eyes. And did you know it’s magnetic genre for suit can take parts of the palette off and switch them around: very handy. No eyeliner was used here just eye shadows. WOW BLAST FROM THE PAST - MAKEUP I DID IN 2013. I was going through some old e mails today and came across this image, I am so pleased I did as it brought back some nice memeories from my early days in makeup. I thought this would be a nice image to show to inspire new artists to get out there and network to build your portfolio and business. Using @kryolanofficial I had only been in Edinburgh a short while and I was still pretty new to the makeup industry. I did not know anyone in Scotland, but I knew I had to get out there and network so I could build my portfolio and business. Nothing was stopping me, I had a fire in me to get out there. I met a local photographer and we met a handful of times and shot some creative makeup looks. This specific look was inspired by high fashion runway makeup. Inspiration was Val Garland looks as well as Pat McGrath. A few years into makeup I then started to create my own original looks, looks that had never been done before. Like my rise of the guardians animated film look. This took my makeup from strength to strength creating and practising my looks every single week. There was not a week that went by when I was not doing something with makeup. Always pushing myself to try new things and create new things. Trying new products, brushes, textures etc. This has to be done to be a successful makeup artist, you can not cut corners and expect to get the results you want.
