Plummeted into the Diamond Life

S.Coups - Watched Showgirls once and now he thinks he’s Nomi. He tried to get addicted to drugs to really dive into the Vegas lifestyle but it made karaoke nights less fun so he just fakes it now and takes a lot of Claritin pills out of a small plastic bag. On the upside he isn’t allergic to cats anymore.

Jeonghan - Retired two years ago and now runs the club. Gets a 15% cut off everyone who works there and a 25% cut from S.Coups as revenge for that one time he pushed him off stage in what can only be described as a glitter and vodka-fuelled act of attempted murder. 

Joshua - He’s just putting himself through law school. At least that’s what he says. He is in law school, but it’s a full-ride scholarship so he really doesn’t need this job. He just likes the pink stilettos. 

Jun - Strips to slam poetry. Not his own, he just finds clips on YouTube and uses them during his shows. Last week’s thinkpiece strip was set to a half hour long poem about climate change. 

Hoshi - Does an exceptionally niche performance every Thursday night. The song? Eye of the Tiger. The pants? Off. The underwear? Tiger striped. The club? Packed. Hoshi? Purring like a kitten while rolling in stacks of dollar bills. Seungkwan? Terrified.  

Wonwoo - Was originally hired as the bartender but has since been thrust on stage without any interest on his part. Spends the whole time wincing and falls over at least twice. Uses a Kelly Clarkson song because doesn’t know any others. Jeonghan pulls him aside halfway through, takes his glasses from him, and sends him back out there blind. Without sight he is free. The inner hoe is released at long last. 

Woozi - Gets launched out of a glitter canon at the beginning of every show. Whoever’s lap he lands in has to pay for his cab fare back home so he can have a nap. 

DK - Invites his family to every show and doesn’t exactly get why that’s maybe sort of weird. Wonwoo tries to tell him, but he just doesn’t listen. His grandma gives him a lot of tips for being a good boy. 

Mingyu - Only does floor work. Refuses to work the pole because it’s too high off the ground and it makes him nervous. The one time he did try he got stuck at the top because the strap of his leather thong got caught on a bolt and it traumatized him for life. 

The8 - He’s not a stripper, he’s an exotic dancer. Get it right. But he will tag all of his Instagram posts with #stripper for the clout anyway. His bikinis are all Balenciaga. 

Seungkwan - Starts off great. He has practised so much. Doja Cat is playing over the speakers, he is feeling himself entirely. He looks out over the audience, and sees one singular bored expression. One person with their phone out. He snaps. The hoop earrings come off, the shoes go flying, and before they know it Seungkwan has launched himself, immaculately painted claws out, onto them in a ball of pure anger and rage. Joshua represents him pro bono for the lawsuit. 

Vernon - Keeps missing his performances because he falls asleep half-clothed in the dressing room. Somehow still in super high demand with clients. They don’t realise all his mysterious allure is just because he’s often silently thinking about barbecue. 

Disclaimer: I am not fluent in KSL or ASL. I studied a bit of ASL in college and I find it incredibly fascinating. I am only human so if there is a mistake, please let me know Signs, like languages are very regional and each signer signs differently. It’s like pops vs soda and dialects. Yet when signers come together, they can figure each other’s sign out. Also, Deaf is a cultural identity. It can be used for those who are Hard of Hearing, completely deaf or prefers to use ASL as their main form of communication and are a member of the Deaf community. Please no do call Deaf individuals “Deaf and Dumb” or “Deaf/Mute” because those terms are offensive, inaccurate, and out of date. Thank you. 

Pretty U: From the start, Seventeen (Soonyoung) wanted to make sure their music could be enjoyed by every single carat.  In Korean Sign Language, BEAUTIFUL is signed by tapping a dimple then covering your face. ADORABLE (KSL) is signed by circling your face (like ASL’s APPEARANCE) and then tapping the cheek. 

Clap: In American Sign Language, to applaud someone, you shake both your hands back and forth. From looking at a KSL dictionary, CLAP is clapping. This would be considered an iconic sign because it looks exactly what it is!

Thanks:  I remember watching Wonwoo (?) and mingyu (?) explaining that one hand represents Carats and the other is SEVENTEEN and they are connected by their pinkies as a promise. Well, This is the KSL sign for PROMISE. Throughout the choreography, all 13 members sign promise.
