sweet like peaches

Aiden shrugged, “I don’t know, we don’t have any specific time in mind, but we play here a lot! If you want, I can text you next show we have? I’ll even get you some backstage passes so you don’t have to trespass this time,” he winked at her teasingly. 

“Yeah, no problem! I’m sure it won’t go away too much if at all, it’s been a part of you so long. I think.. I’m not too sure how accents work, honestly,” he laughed.

“That sounds great but oh my gosh, you don’t have to get us backstage anything. That is really sweet of you though, but my friends and I would be more than happy to pay for our own tickets,” the blonde remarked. “I really am sorry that I trespassed, you think I would be used to how back stages work after doing years of pageants,” Savannah adds on with another giggle escaping from her painted lips. “I have no idea how they work either, but I know I will be sad if I lose it completely. Have you lived in Cali your whole life though?”

Aiden smiled at her compliment happily. He always loved when people loved their music, and compliments like this reminded not only Aiden, but the whole band as well, why they perform in the first place - to put a smile on people’s faces, and give them a chance to escape reality for a bit. “I’m so glad you liked our music!”

He chuckled when she mentioned her accent, “yeah, actually,” his nose scrunched a lil as he laughed. “I knew i could hear that southern accent. It’s cute, though.”

“When is your next show going to be? I’d love to bring some of my friends to see you guys again,” the blonde remarked. It would not only give her an excuse to have another fun night out, but to also shop around for a cute outfit. While she loved a good country concert, there was something about this rock show that brought so much adrenaline and excitement to her. “Oh my gosh, thank you. I’m worried it’s going to start going away the longer I am here though.”

“No, don’t worry about it!” Aiden responded to her apology. “We’ve been performing officially as a band for about seven years, but we’ve always done some fun stuff on the side ever since we were kids,” he smiled at her, “our mom has a ton of videos from it all,” he laughed

Making new friends was always one of his favorite things to do, so he follows up his response with a question, “are you from around here?”

“That is like totally awesome!” Savannah exclaimed, smiling ear to ear as she let Aiden explain his musical background. “I’ll be honest, I’m usually only a country kind of girl, but you guys really were good. I will have to check out more of your songs,” she added on. Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, she continues to speak. “No I’m not actually. Been living here for a few years but I grew up in Georgia, does my accent give it away at all?”

Aiden waved goodbye to the crowd of people in front of him, gathered together on the side of the venue that his band just played at. He backed up as he waved, smiling at them all and thanking them for coming, fans had gotten pictures with the band and got to talk with them all for a few hours. They do that after shows, they’ve always been so grateful for their fans and never passed up the opportunity to show it. 

As Aiden backed up, he ran into something behind him… or, someone. he turned around quickly, “oh shit, I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” he frantically asked. before they even got the chance to answer, his mind was moving so fast that he asked yet another question, “did you want a picture? Oh, I don’t think you’re supposed to be back here, actually. Security usually doesn’t let people this far back. How’d you get here?” He kind of tilted his head in question, like a puppy dog. Realizing he had blindsided the person in front of him, he shook his head, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to bombard you with questions. I’m Aiden Hearte,” he smiled and held his hand out in front of him, gesturing for a handshake, because he couldn’t tell if the person was a fan or just some passerby who had no clue what they were walking into.

Savannah had been quite busy the week prior with her college classes, meetings, and photoshoots with different companies and brands. While she loved having a packed schedule, she was pretty excited to finally have a nice to herself where she could do whatever the heck she wanted to. The blonde had heard through the grapevine about a concert going on downtown which sounded super fun! She decided to put on a cute little matching crop top and mini skirt and heeled boots. Her hair was lightly curled and she even brought one of her favorite small purses. 

The show had ended and she was trying to find an exit when she hadn’t even realized she had gotten backstage? “Oh my gosh, I am so so sorry about that. I’m, uh, Savannah though! It’s really super nice to meet you too,” she nods her head, shaking his hand.  “How long have you been performing?”

    | | “you the type to just get drunk at parties and clubs, then? as long as someone buys that for ya or something?”

“Honestly, I’ve never been much of a drinker. Not to the point where I’m completely drunk, no. But, if I think I am around the right company, that can totally change.”

    | | “so, you ever been drunk on the beach?”

“Honestly, I can’t say I have. But, there is a first for everything, right? I’m glad that it’s nice and clear out though, barely need a jacket out here.”

The grocery store was honestly one of the places Desmond avoided the very most. All the people pushing their carts into each other’s, blocking the aisles, walking slowly directly in front of him - it was all just a recipe for him to lose his patience in every way imaginable. But, he needed some vegetables for the stir fry he wanted to make for dinner, and the InstaCart minimum for delivery was thirty-five bucks. It was just easier, cheaper, and probably quicker to go get them himself.

Not long after stopping in the produce section, a girl appeared by his side, cheery as all get out to ask him a question. As much as he didn’t love interacting with strangers, Desmond exhaled a thoughtful hum at the question. “Hm. Probably cherry tart pie. Cobblers are just impostor, messy pies, anyway. Might as well go all the way and make the real deal, right?”

“Well well, you have quite the strong opinion on cobbler,” Savannah’s eyes widen a bit in surprise. Who doesn’t love cobbler? The perfect crumble topping when it was warm mixed with the coolness of vanilla ice cream? Truly a match made in heaven. But, she respected other people’s opinion and that was not the only dessert that existed. “I see what you mean though, do you enjoy a nice pie crust? The tart pie I normally make doesn’t include a normal style of crust, I find most of them to be too dry.”

She squints, a mix of irritation and confusion evident on her face. “Tiktok? Whatahell is that?” A beat before realization hits her. “Ohhh, that app everyone uses ta post meaningless videos on? Nah, I got betta things to worry about. Good luck with that uh, family recipe thing. I don’t think that’s tha target demographic for them tiktok users tho’.”

“Well, not all of them are pointless,” Savannah disagrees with the older woman. “Honestly, I think Tiktok is really for anybody, it doesn’t matter what age you are! Lots of people have gotten a lot of fame and exposure from making videos on there. I’m sort of trying to do that, I find it fun to connect with others in that way.”

Cruising down the aisles of the grocery store Thaddeus was making good time before his work shift at the beach. His stomach was rumbling with hunger and since his fridge at home didn’t have much of anything in it, he needed to grab a few key items plus a quick lunch. Lost in thoughts over his mission, Thaddeus almost missed the female’s question. The word ‘cobbler’ had snapped him out of his reverie. 

“Neither, actually. I personally love a good blueberry cobbler or an apple pie. I don’t suppose that helps though, does it?” He supplied a wry smile then looked over the female. She looked familiar to him but he was having trouble placing her. 

“Oooh, I didn’t even think about making a blueberry cobbler,” Savannah’s eyes grow wide. She really wasn’t picky in terms of what kinds of fruits she liked to add into her desserts, blueberries seemed to always be underrated though. “Maybe if I am feeling in the mood to go extra crazy in the kitchen, I’ll make two different versions of cobbler. Thank you for the suggestions though! I’m Savannah, pretty sure we may have met before - right? Maybe?”

Val was on her weekly shopping trip. She was just vibing in the store with her airpods in. Seeing a woman in the corner of her eye walking over to her. She took an airpod out to catch her question. “Oh! Well both sounds amazing. I’m not much of a baker, but I love any peach dessert. So I can say that would be amazing. With cinnamon and some ice cream. Can’t go wrong.”  

“It’s always been one of my favorite things to make growing up,” she remarked, getting a warm feeling in her heart when thinking about her time back on the ranch. While her childhood wasn’t perfect by any means, the good parts outweighed the bad. Some of her fondest memories were spent in her big, beautiful kitchen with her mother, memorizing all of the beloved family recipes with her. “Exactly and I almost half tempted to try making ice cream from scratch. It might be a total disaster but I might be up for the challenge.”

Four years on her own and she still wasn’t sure how to function properly ; a byproduct of having to start from scratch in your late 30s. Today it looks like Lennon staring down the frozen food section, deciding whether she had enough money to treat herself to a pint of ice cream or if she’d have to spend it all on these damn hot pockets, the only thing she could really afford for the week. But she’s pulled out of her deep thought ; looks like someone has actually decided to approach her. “Uh, what the hell do I look like ta you? Rosanna Pansino? I don’t fuckin’ know, they both sound like a stomach ache beggin’a rip right through my guts.” Lennon rolls her eyes and returns her attention to the situation at hand before sighing … “Ah, peach cobbler. Can’t go wrong with a cobbler.”

Savannah was slightly taken back by the other’s response to her. She hadn’t taken in mind that perhaps not everybody coming to the store today was going to be in a bright and chipper mood. That was one thing that she did miss about living down south, most people at least tried to conceal being upset with even a forced smile and happy tone of voice. 

“I was thinkin’ of recreating my family’s recipe for cobbler and putting my own twist on it. Do you use Tiktok? I’ll probably be posting it on there.”

Oh no … admittedly, this isn’t quite the reaction he was looking for. What he WAS looking for, he isn’t entirely sure he knew … but not THIS. This was kind of sad, the blonde before him genuinely feeling sympathy for a death that didn’t happen. “Uh … look if I’m being real, I totally just lied to you. I usually don’t let up this soon, but you seem so … god what’s the word … DISTRAUGHT, and that’s never what I’m goin’ for.”

“Oh, really?” Savannah responded. Welp, that joke had completely gone over her head. Not a total shocker, considering how much of a ditz she could be when talking with others. “You sounded like super convincing though so like, props to you or whatever,” she lets out an awkward giggle. “Do you have any other exciting plans for the day besides tricking gullible people?”

So, she found herself at the grocery store, picking up some fresh ingredients for later. Torn between two recipes to make, she approaches the first person who looked semi friendly. “Hi there, quick question! What sounds like something you’d enjoy more? An old fashioned peach cobbler or cherry tart pie?”

SCORE. Someone had fallen for it, something he’d pat himself on the back for later on. Now he had the task of keeping it going for as long as possible — morality aside, he’s pretty sure he can handle it. “God I know, isn’t it just AWFUL?” He shakes his head and exhales. “Man, he was one of the good ones, too. ‘Somethin’ somethin’ smokin’ out the windowwww’ … yeah, it’s a shame. He and his lyrical genius’ll be missed for sure.”

“Now I sort of feel bad that I never really got into his music,” she frowns, chewing on her bottom lip that was perfectly glossy. When she was younger, Bruno Mars was considered a bit too ‘inappropriate’ for her to listen to. Her parents would have been very disappointed in her for such questionable choices (not like that would be the worst thing she ever did behind their backs).  “What was your favorite song by him? I really only listen to county music if I’m being honest.”
