kicking off the new year by returning to this hell site. is anyone still even on here? if yes please keep it to yourself so i can document my thoughts into this empty void anxiety free.
one of my ~goals~ this year is to read 12 books. i figure if i can’t bring myself to read one book a month i might as well declare myself brain dead and have someone pull the plug on me. happy to say i have already read two! and 20% into my third according to kindle.
the first was ferrante’s days of abandonment which i actually read in the in between haze of christmas and new year but fuck you im still counting it.
honestly i thought it was great. short enough and gripping enough i think it was the perfect choice to kick off this personal goal im trying to achieve. have wanted to read her work for a while from reviews i’ve read and i really loved the film adaption of TLD. as a genre, “depressed woman moving through the world” is my BAG. cannot get enough.
It’s also made me realise how much great fiction books are obv out there. for the longest time i’ve been a strictly non fiction/sociological/psychological theory type of a gal but often they’re either completely impenetrable or make me feel like i’m overcompensating for being a college drop out lol.
the second i just finished this morning was i’m glad my mom died by jennette mccurdy. i was never really a nickelodeon kid growing up so didn’t know much about her but found the premise compelling. decided to listen to the audiobook version cause i think it’s a better experience to read someone’s memoir in their voice with their cadence if that makes sense.
again, really enjoyed. it felt weird to give it a rating when prompted as i find it strange to “rate” someone’s lived experiences particularly when they’re so raw and vulnerable.
could relate to a few of the topics discussed and even the ones i couldn’t relate to through lived experience, her writing was so good i almost felt like i could. i think if she goes on to write anything else i’ll pick it up
and i’m currently 20% through my year of rest and relaxation. im liking it so far, i can see why the tiktok girlies have been eating this up - pretty, rich, blond 20 something hates her life and is rotting in bed popping tranquilizers like tictacs - it’s definitely an aesthetic that’s somewhat glorified. also if they turn this into a movie natasha lyonne should play the doctor. that’s who i have in my head when reading.
that’s all i have for now. hopefully i’ll return once i’ve finished with my final thoughts, maybe i’ll make this diary once a month like a regular wrap up, maybe i’ll abandon this idea all together and you’ll never see me again!
