The Jews who were arrested for occupying an Amazon store on August 11 were given September 30, the first day of Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days in the Jewish year, as their court date. This is in NYC, the city with the highest number of Jews in the world and where Rosh Hashanah is a city wide recognized holiday. All public schools and colleges in NYC are closed on that day.

People reading this as “They will miss their holiday.” Are correct, but only seeing part of the picture. It will be more difficult for these Americans to have “A jury of their peers” if their peers are forced to choose between their jury summons and their cultural devotion to their faith. This is not only despicable, it’s unconstitutional. 

But also it’s like… the holiest day of the year along with Yom Kippur. It’s not just any Jewish holiday. Everyone, even people that never go to synagogue, go on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. As a kid our synagogue had to hire out two extra halls to deal with overflow on these days as literally everyone in the community attended.

Rescuing slaves from the Confederacy = illegal. Hiding Jews from the Nazis = illegal. There are crimes we should be proud of committing, and laws so heinous that those who follow them should be ashamed to do so.

I’ve never used this expression before, but that’s some piping hot tea right there.

reminder that many children are funneled specifically to Christian families and communities for the same reasons they always have: destroy culture, stack votes, add bodies to communities that otherwise wouldn’t hold majorities. it is literal, actual trafficking.

This is a part of genocide.  Removing the children from their parents, who generally desperately love and want to raise them, and placing them with white American families is a way to erase their culture from existence without the ugliness of directly killing children.  But it’s still ugly, and it cares nothing for the actual welfare of the child.

How can people be so cruel? This is a living death. Jesus.

it fucks me up so much that every day for like 7 years i’d travel an hour on the bus to school, study for 6 hours with only a 45-minute break at lunch, attend 2 extra-curriculars afterwards, travel home again, do my homework, meet up with or text my friends, then spend like 5 hours online doing jackshit before finally falling asleep at like 3am and waking up 3 hours later and do the same thing all over again all while battling anxiety, depression and hormones and somehow manage not to die prematurely of exhaustion or suffer a permanent nervous breakdown. nowadays i cry from the sheer effort of getting out of bed every morning.

actually wait i’m not done bc i just realised that the fact that i had no choice but to force my body beyond its limits pretty much every single day for a period of several years during a crucial stage of my development in order to maintain a balanced work/social life is literally the reason why i’m now so ill and depressed that getting out of bed every morning is a herculean task all on its own. the expectations placed on me and millions of others during our teenage years is literally making us sick.

Until the 2020 election is over I’m just gonna blanket assume any “This viable Democratic candidate is UNSUPPORTABLE” stuff is a saboteur. Like, y’all can criticize and obviously I want to process to be fair and open, but literally even a whif of “as bad or worse than Trump” or “better not to vote” and I’m gonna be like Nice Try, Russian Spy.
