Today I went to a workshop held by stop motion animator Tim Allen, heβs worked on so much such as Corpse Bride and Isle of Dogs.
The workshop began with a talk from him and then he explained how when we animate puppets and bodies we should focus on moving the body as one and when one part of it moves other parts will move with it, this prevents isolating parts and joints and looks more natural and fluid.
We then had a go animating with puppets ourself and it was a great chance to explore and experiment with what he had told us.
The next part of the workshop he explained balance more and demonstrated how when the torso moves one way the hips move the other to help keep our balance. We then went on to improve our animations with this to make them look more realistic.
The workshop was very insightful and even though Iβm not a stop motion animator I can take a lot of what he said and put it into my work to improve it.
