When I heard this recently I thought it was a lovely piece of music that would be appropriate to a secular/atheist funeral or memorial ceremony. While we don’t await life after death, we know that our atoms return to the universe from whence they came. This gives me some sense of eternal being, if not in the conscious sense. I’ll take stardust over heaven every time

On the Abuse Issue:

NEVER, EVER, NEVER tell a girl not to be angry or bitter or ask for forgiveness when she is confronting the issues in her life surrounding abuse. This is the #1 RULE in counseling abuse victims. But because BJU does not have a REAL counseling program they don’t know this is 100% WRONG and destroys a persons life. And for the record, an angry victim is NOT the same as an alcoholic or a drug addict. Just the fact that he used that together in this illustration is HEINOUS!

An abuse victim was a vulnerable CHILD who was manipulated by a SICK adult.

The FIRST responses an abuse victim will have when they come to terms with their abuse is rage, fear, anger, pain, wrath, etc. THIS emotion must COME OUT and be accepted and encouraged. YES! encouraged. And the person needs months, years, sometimes decades to work through this emotion. You cannot start a watch and say, “Ready, Set, Go. Now be happy and forgive.” It just doesn’t work that way.

People who have never been severely abused have NO IDEA what it is like. The abuse alters a child’s personality, their life drive and commitments, and it changes them from the inside out.

I like to say it like this:

“A normal, non-abused child spends their life seeing the rose bushes and loves the beautiful colors, the wonderful smell and revels in the wonderful intricacies of God’s creation. But the abused child spends their life seeing the thorns and the weeds along the edges of the rose garden.”

Abuse alters a person from head to toe. And if you are not a PROFESSIONAL (a TRUE professional) on this issue, you SHOULD NOT be COUNSELING someone about this! THIS is as serious as cancer, or a brain tumor, or a clogged artery. There is not an easy 1-2-3 answer to this very complex problem.
