Once I finished high school (years ago lol) the number one question was, “What’s next?” OR “What’s your plan now?” My answer was always “I Don’t Know”!
This of course was an unsatisfying answer to most who believe that being uncertain means you have no path in life.
The lame but true reasons:
1. During high school I had no mentors or advisors to communicate with.
2. The HS teachers were not motivated which, reflected back on the students.
3. Having1-6 periods of classes every M-F at 7am-3pm, nutrition, and lunch (That sums up high school in a nut shell) was not enough to keep me focused.
4. No colleges came to our HS campus nor did we visit any college campuses.
5. I had no clue why high school was important. The only thing I knew was “If you don’t finish HS you’re going to be working at McDonalds”.
6. I had gone to HS school for 4 years and not once did I think of a plan!
I was working minimum wage at a retail store with one theory you can “Network” your way up the success ladder. (This is only partially true)
1. If you appear to know more than your boss. You’ve already failed at rule #1 in 48 Laws of Power, “Never outshine the master”. (A problem I had for years)
2. I’ve found that people like people who are similar to themselves.
3. You must brand yourself as a “Necessary Need”. For example, when your Boss leaves the company for a better niche. I can assure you that if you’re a necessary need you will not be left behind.
4. Someone is always in need of a job. Everyone is replaceable.
5. LASTLY! Build your own retail company NEVER work for one!
The realization of those 5 things made me get serious about university.
Okay let’s speed up to 2014.
I finished my AA degree and transferred to one of the top Cal Universities.
Okay speed up a little more.
It’s 2016! I’m a senior who’s accomplished a variety of life lessons, goals,and skills through the use of organizational and interpersonal communication.
The same question I thought I would never have to hear again. Is back like the wind!
THE LESSON - Even if you don’t have a plan keep moving forward with persistence. Your next move could be your best move! You can plan your life out like a map but a detour/delay could appear. I planned to be working for a fortune 500 company but at the end of the day there is no plan. There’s no guarantee in the things we plan we can only hope for the best and try to control our lives but even life has its own agenda with lessons that need to be learned.
