while reading for pleasure is great, its not the only reason to visit the library. when you have a gap in your knowledge, its a really great place to patch that up by taking out a single book on it. you won't be a top expert, but you'll be far ahead compared to if you'd just watched a few videos or something. you'll also absorb much more information because reading with your eyes is a different skill compared to listening to a video, and it's a good workout for your attention span.
i would highly encourage trying this if you're an adult and feel that your education was subpar or left you with embarrassing ignorance. going back and fixing it yourself can really help your self confidence. another thing to note, in case you're nervous, is that you won't be under pressure to read quickly. even if you have the book for the maximum amount of time, you can simply renew your borrow and keep reading it.
I feel alone when I also say women and our identities is too tied to our hair, that having lots of it feels like a sacrifice we are taught from the moment we is born. So, the concept of losing it, even voluntarily, feels/is scary to most women, and we mourn it. We do anything. So when I see a woman with lots of it, it hurts. When I think about how my mother legitimately cried over my first pixie cut, I think of this connection between us, our identity, and hair.
If you were bald, or damn near, who would you be?
When i was 13 i decided to become penpals with the surviving members of the heavens gate cult who were still maintaining their email/website/book sales and they responded to me a couple of times before my mom found out and i genuinely couldnt fathom why she would be upset with me
good morning! remember every day is a chance to begin anew [breaks off and sits on the edge of the bed staring blankly for 23 minutes before running a hand down face like a tortured movie protagonist] my god where did it all go so wrong

"why is this post made by an american about american politics so american-centric? Don't you know other countries exist?"
Why are you guys posting about wildfires? It's literally fine where I live. Don't you know there's other places that aren't on fire right now?
Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.
A lot of otherwise good art is completely ruined by giving the woman character a stereotypical pretty face and makeup.
ESPECIALLY if it's art about how she's supposed to be alienated by society.
unfortunate truth of reality is that oftentimes 15 year olds will say/do/believe some stupid bullshit because they are 15 but telling them that they believe that because they are 15 is probably the most counterproductive thing in the entire universe
Me when Supergirl convinces the 13 year old not to kill the irredeemable villain because it would retraumatize her: yeah ok fair enough :/
Me when Supergirl kills the irredeemable villain herself the second Ruthye’s back is turned, thus ending the cycle of abuse without involving the terrified grieving child: YEAH OK FAIR ENOUGH :D

one of the most frustrating things about getting a job is that after you go through the absolute hellscape that is applying and interviewing and you finally prove yourself worthy of having employment, you'll end up in the workforce and realise that 90% of the people with jobs are not actually very good at them. so like why was all of that even so hard
Shout out to this tiny yet crucial error on an otherwise actually very informative post about myths about tax returns and the IRS
oh boy! something in my mailbox from the IRA? I wonder what it could be!
It's okay if you're 22 and still sleep with a stuffed animal it's called having the cuddlers spirit and it's actually what gets you into heaven
When pixie cut turtleneck glasses starts talking I LISTEEENNNNNNNNN
it’s 2026 i think it’s high time we left mind-body dualism behind us as a species. let’s go into 2027 with the full understanding that we are our bodies and that our consciousness cannot be separated from them thank you

Yeah, I’ve heard of that show. It sounds good. I’d probably watch it if they removed 50-75% of the male characters.
internally, you must start adding “and they still can’t stop us” to the end of every dismaying statistic about rape, male violence, and woman-hating. 1 in 9 girls are sexually abused, and they still can’t stop us. a woman is killed by a partner or family member every 10 minutes, and they still can’t stop us. the global pay gap is still wide, we have not achieved gender parity in global politics, etc etc etc, and they still can’t stop us. women & girls can’t be stopped. we carve out our lives and make change. we are at war and many individual battles are lost, the suffering is enormous. but women will win the war (and are winning across the eons), because everything they’ve done so far hasn’t been able to put a dent in the collective female spirit, which is evident when you look at the curve of human history and how we never give up on improving, inventing, innovating, changing life for the better
