WAY TO BE, AGENT 3 !

“Hey!!” – you overheard them as you were walking by, and almost didn’t stop. You don’t have a lot in your bank account, given you don’t have a job just yet. You falter though, because you pretty much just yelled at this kid without further context. You were just trying to get their attention but, well. Being intense as a default has its drawbacks. 

“You… you need money? Like, how much?”

You open the wallet app on the weirdly heavy device from your pocket. Oh good, there’s a transfer function. 

The yell caused 3 to tense up, shoulders stiffening as they cocked their head back to see who was the source of the shout. At the following words, though, they relaxed a bit. 

 “It would not surprise me if they had done this on purpose.” Them being the lords of this land after all, they control everything from weather to where people live. If they choose to live like a civilised person and not a idiot. 

He closes his eyes, feeling a bit out. 

 “There…should be a complaint box for this…” or something, similar. Maybe a prayer if they were gods? No use further complaining after all. 

くコ:彡 ~ The inkling couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter- the idea of having a complaint box to what was essentially God here was funny, in a way.

It was too hot to move outwards, and he could do with some cold tea. unfortunately the festivals didn’t have much that didn’t come without the sugar. Too much sugar was bad for his health as well so thats out of the picture. 

 “Need cold tea….”

Crickets are heard. 

くコ:彡 ~ “Cold tea? Well, there’s probably some around here... somewhere.” 3 didn’t have the faintest idea of where to start looking, though, so they hoped he wasn’t going to ask them for advice on where.

 “Its too hot …” Summer huh. 

くコ:彡 ~  “Agreed...” 

While they had only offered one word as contribution to the conversation, Agent 3 was holding back from saying a lot of spiteful words towards what had brought them here. Earlier, 3 had discovered the current limitation on their squid form the hard way. They had spent an ungodly amount of time inking a small puddle for them to relax and cool down within, only to be forced back out into the summer heat within a mere five minutes.  It sucked.

“Gesundheit.”

“As if that’s all heroes ever do. They ‘stop the bad guys’ and ‘save the people’ and all of that. As if things are always so clear-cut. Sometimes by looking at things from a different point of view, that all changes.”

“I think I’m perfectly within my rights to gripe a little bit about heroes without someone getting on my case for it. This isn’t punishment and if you think it is, you really aren’t going to do well in this city. I don’t play nice and I want him to leave me alone.”

くコ:彡 ~ “I know it isn’t always clear-cut. Trust me, I know. I deal with guilt every damn day because of things I did when I was younger and didn’t realize that. But if I can help someone, even just one person, I’m going to help them. And I don’t like people that are selfish enough that they think because they’ve been hurt, the rest of the world should apparently hurt too.” 

3 takes a moment to suck in a breath between their teeth.

“Well now, you look like quite the interesting fellow. Mind explaining to me if… anything strange has happened recently?”

くコ:彡 ~ “Depends on what you mean by that.”

“I haven’t even started with the threats yet. And I sure didn’t call him out – he came to me, instead. Being a hero just means you get an excuse to ruin people’s lives and you can claim it was for some ‘greater good’.”

くコ:彡 ~ “I don’t think saving people from certain death counts as ruining their lives, but thanks for making assumptions.” 

“Not to mention I NEVER said anything I’ve done was for the greater good. I’ve made mistakes. Bad ones. I know that. But I can still be a good person; I can still be a hero. Sorry that you’ve fallen so low that you can’t do the same, but don’t go punishing those of us who are still trying.”
