oh right, almost forgot about this.
Illustrations i did last year for Ms. Wang Chu Qiao’s children book “Up”
being inspired by the power of children books has put a last minute twist on the assignment. Here I’m exploring and being inspired by the simplicity yet captivating visuals many children books can have. Most graphics look sketch like and dreamy. I really love the loose and transparent use of water colour it makes the graphics look playful and child like.
Assessment 3 - Zoe using her skills in fine freehand pen drawing created the hair on the young boy. The end result is highly effective and realistic. Watercolour was again used on the t-shirt. The deep red contrasted against with the pale blue background is great in ensuring the focal point and attention is on the young boy.
Assessment 3 - Again using the plastic wrap technique we decided to watercolour a full A2 page, so that we could use this visual piece as a background for the story within the child’s book. So that the book is coherent as a whole.
Assessment 3 - Process shots of the development of the background. The background was the first step in creating our artwork of the young child on the beach. Using a range of water colours, coupled with a few techniques of salt dying and plastic wrap led to a delicate and layered aesthetic of the sea behind him.

Brainstorming for Assessment 3 = ALL THE WORLD’S FUTURES
This is the documentation of the class collaborative performance work. We began this process by a member of each group contributing a key word that had to be incorporated into the work. These were: -Bizarre -Noisy -Coherent -Flexible -Sandwich -Interactive We thought about how these could all be combined into a work that we could create collaboratively, and decided to explore an ‘exquisite corpse’ structure as a narrative. It was suggested we form gestures and body movements that embodied these key words, each group creating their own movement to contribute to a whole performance. It was also decided that ‘sandwich’ be influential to all movements. We filmed the completed work, performed by the class members in the COFA courtyard. We used three different variations of filming, time laps, slow motion and regular.

Statement
Body Of Work - Statement
A sculpture or installation was the avenue I wanted to explore. Using my skills and love for textiles I wanted to incorporate fabric. My plan was to experiment with fabric and see how the properties (e.g. lustre, drape and durability) could lead to interesting textures symbolizing fragility and delicacy. I really wanted to explore intricate detailing and a sense of fluidity through the piece.
Natural, organic and softness are the three aspects I wanted to fulfill in my major body of work. My work represents the complexities and connections of humanity through the multifunctional and the multifaceted of the textures. The delicate fabric structure illustrates curious paths of growth and alternate ways human exceed. The techniques evident among the piece create texture and dynamic aesthetic to the delicate installation.
The shape of the work does not sit within a structural frame but an organic abstract form. The asymmetrical shape extends the purpose of being fluid and delicate. I kept the fabric edges raw meaning not to hem and create clear line as the intention was for it to be abstract and free hand aesthetic. The work is calming to eye due to the soft drape of the fabric and organic lines but can also be seen as intense due to the intricate gathering and tightly compacted techniques. The texture of the work is highly captivating and adds so much interest for the viewer to observe the entire piece.
The process began by numerous experiments trying to investigate alternate ways to create textures. Experiments looked at pleating, gathering, heat distortion and thermo plastic heating. Using the sewing machine I played around with different stitch lengths and widths to create an interesting dynamic to the work. Thermoplastic setting was the longest technique to create; the end results were the little bubbles. They create volume to the piece and a sense of smoothness to the organic form. When constructing the piece I constantly needed to hang the work up so that I could see the direction of the fabric to ensure there was an even sense of balance to the work. All the delicate and beautiful techniques work together to emphasis the fragility and preciousness of human kind.
The materials I concluded with; were organza and satin, the reasoning behind these fabrics was the delicacy and the natural sheen to the materials. Furthermore, the contrast of the different transparency of the fabrics created depth and volume to the work. Red thread was used for all the stitching so that it remained subtle.
The way in which I want my work to be perceived by the public would be inside a grand gallery with high ceilings. The scale of the work would be extremely large showcasing the vast amount of fabric, which has been sewn with numerous textures and fine embellishments. The wall of the gallery would be white conveying a high contrast ensuring the focal point would be the installation. The piece would sit off the wall being held up with invisible thread conveying the thought that it is floating. Lighting will be placed on the work to showcase the skill as well as the slight sheen in the deep red silk organza will create a sparkle to the design piece.
FINAL BODY OF WORK - Assessment 2
Assessment 2 - Process
Another technique which will be included in the final piece, this was done by gathering and placed it in a different form to create new texture to the work.
Assessment 2 - Process
Starting to produce more techniques on the final work. I decided to do the thermoplastic heating on satin rather then organza because satin is more durable therefore producing a more distinct organic shape. I cut a thin line on the organza so that I could push through the little bobbles.

Assessment 2 - Process
This is image is the start of my final body of work, the way I created this texture was by gathering multiple lines of stitching. The softness and delicacy of the technique is very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.
Assessment 2 - Experimentation
Using the sewing machine, I created some pleating....... just another technique which could be possibly included in my installation.
