I wish they made Itachi actually look his age in the flashbacks,,, don't tell me he's 13 and then show him looking like he's already gone through puberty twice. I understand the stress lines but why is he built like he's 20 years old I hate it. If you're trying to swindle your way out of making the child exploitation look like child exploitation what is even the point of putting it in the story. It's supposed to be horrible and uncomfortable that Itachi's a child being used as a pawn in Konoha's military regime, ageing him up in the artwork of a primarily visual story is a total cop out to avoid depicting how awful that actually that is.

You have to keep in mind that flashbacks are nothing but these characters' unreliable memories. Itachi looks like an adult because Sasuke perceived him as such. Even as Obito is spelling out that Itachi was merely a child, Sasuke is incapable of seeing Itachi the way he was, envisioning him instead with the last face he saw him with. And Itachi also viewed himself as an adult, and therefore unworthy of grace. Only in memories where he stands near their father does it become obvious that Itachi was just a shrimpy little kid.

What he looked like on that night is likely very close to how other ANBU members remember him, still swimming in a flak jacket too big for him.
