she’s so impressed by paul guessing that the bene gesserit meddle in politics lmfao. girl what else would the mysterious order strategically placed within every echelon of the landsraad be doing other than politics. also. what other possible conclusion could he come to as to why his mom knows secret mind control techniques.

the degree to which bene gesserit powers and agendas are actually secret is so ambiguous lol. the harkonnens know about the voice via yueh but after neutralizing jessica it never comes up again. you’d think that information would be more valuable even than control of arrakis but then a couple years later they just invite bene gesserit to feyd’s birthday party and he’s not even warned against fucking her. all these people are stupid as hell every last one of them. I love this stupid book.

chapter 1 does such a tidy and seamless job of juggling exposition through dialogue and narration. chapter 2 opens like “greetings fellow bad guys, we are gathered here today to exposit unnaturally to each other” it’s so fucking funny it’s so awkward and heavy-handed. even granting that the framing device is “explaining things to a sullen teenager” it’s like they’ve never had a conversation before. it’s giving improv troupe breaking the forth wall. they are all cheating out to the audience.

and nnno we don't call it "winter" when it's december even though we're TECHNICALLY in the northern hemisphere. because it is 35+ degrees during december and 35+ degrees during july and 35+ degrees every other time of the year as well. so it doesn't really make sense to reference the typical northern/southern seasons when you live right on the equator!

we DO reference seasons as a CONCEPT but it wasn't summer/autumn/winter/spring. it was wet season/dry season. that's it.
