BIOGRAPHY !
Laurel Grey never expected to get pregnant after a one night stand, but that was her fate. Living from couch to couch in LA, she never got her acting career stable enough for it to be a career so when her friend got her a job at the front desk in an accounting firm, Laurel moved from sunny California to Maryland. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who she named Usaki to honor her own Japanese roots. Laurel did her best to raise her daughter, but from years of being on the party scene and struggling with addiction, she passed away at the age of thirty two from alcohol poisoning. With no remaining family and her mother having no will, Usaki moved in with her mother’s friend Maura Linderman who fostered her from the age of five until she left home at eighteen after a fight.
Usaki’s childhood was rough with not really knowing her mother or father and being raised by Maura. Sure Maura did her best to support Usaki, but the girl was headstrong. Maura didn’t want to erase Usaki’s mother, but at the same time she didn’t want the young woman to fall into the same patterns. She was nothing if not tough and overprotective. Saki grew up with a strict curfew, she was required to go to church with Maura, she wasn’t allowed to date, and she got grounded if her grades dropped below a B. For the most part Saki didn’t really have too many friends. She stuck to herself, having a couple of friends here and there that usually dropped her when she wasn’t allowed to come over for a sleepover. Saki grew up feeling like an outcast, looking at photos of her mother who she knew so little about. So she made up stories about her mom, pretended what her life would be like with her there.
When she went to high school, she was only allowed one after school activity and when she told Maura she wanted to join the school play, Maura became outraged by the thought. She refused to let Saki try out for the school play. For three years, Saki joined other clubs, though nothing stuck and every year she looked at the play longingly. But senior year Saki found a way around that, she told Maura she wanted to join the mathletes and even convincingly lied enough that her foster mom let her. Yet, she never joined mathletes, instead she tried out for the play and got the lead role. Usaki felt incredibly excited. Suddenly she went from having no friends to suddenly being called over to sit with her cast mates at lunch. She patiently waited for Maura to go to bed so she could run lines and when it came time for the school play, she made sure her foster mother was busy with some church function that Saki so graciously suggested they have. Unfortunately, Maura did find out about the play and she was livid. She kicked Saki out of her house and Saki spent the rest of the school year couch jumping various friend’s houses.
Saki ran to LA the second she graduated after grabbing her mom’s belongings from Maura’s house and stealing the car that was rightfully hers. She landed in LA, a far too young, far too impressionable woman who was angry. She got a job as a cashier, found someone looking for a roommate, and started to try and make her name in the acting world. And she didn’t get very far. The first year she only got a singular callback and didn’t end up booking the role. But Saki was determined to make it. She knew she had talent, people just needed to see it. She went to audition after audition and had nothing to prove it. No one wanted to book her. But it was right when she was about to call Maura crying and crawling back to Maryland did she see an advertisement in a paper for an indie movie. The pay was atrocious but it was the passion project for a small group of friends who were more interested in making the movie than anything else. She walked into the audition and blew them away. Usaki was incredibly happy to book her first role and although the project ended up not making too much money, it got her contacts and people saw her talent.
At twenty four, Saki wanted to see if she had any family and try to see if she had half siblings or who her father was. She did an ancestry test to see the results and didn’t get anything interesting. But it left her with some sort of hope that one day she’d have a family to call her own. Saki forgot about the test and continued on with her life. Until a mysterious email made its way into her inbox. Saki read the email only to find out that her grandfather had also been an actor. He had a short romance with a woman for a summer which resulted in Laurel, but he never knew about her. Since Saki was the only living relative of his, found by the ancestry test, she inherited his entire fortune and mansion in Aurora Bay. The twenty four year old found herself in town, going through her grandfather’s things, finding out information about family she did have, even if they were gone. She read letters her grandfather sent her grandmother before her grandmother left. She watched her grandfather’s movies, now knowing where she got her talent and passion from. And yet, she’d made it all on her own. Gossip sites got hold of the information and Saki found herself blowing up overnight. Before she’d only done smaller indie movies and while she got some fans from it, suddenly they were interested in her story as Wyatt Walton’s granddaughter.
She got offered more roles and eventually got cast in as one of the leads in a show that she conveniently got them to shoot in Aurora Bay–so her commute wouldn’t have to be as far. Saki’s life in Aurora Bay is kind of lonely, not because she doesn’t have friends but because has an entire mansion all on her own and no one to share it with. Although navigating the dating scene is incredibly difficult as an actress with a famous grandfather. Still, she does her best to navigate the life of a young actress still trying to find herself in the world. Only recently did they come out as nonbinary, changing their pronouns online and making a bigger effort to spend time and donate money to Queer organizations. Saki also recently started a charity foundation for people with alcohol and substance abuse problems in order to help people struggling like their mother. Although Saki has not reached out to make any amends with Maura, sometimes they feel there’s too much bad blood between them for anything to ever feel straightened out.

"Oh gosh. It's so easy to make me blush. Any little compliment... I'm one of those people that tends to easily blush whenever someone say anything nice to me. Also if any pretty woman speaks to me, I can't help but blush. If I like someone, then basically anything they say will fluster me."
Rhia smiled bright before looping her arm through Saki's. There's a small bit of hesitation in that. Not because she was unsure, but more so of a switch between the excitement and Rhiannon's pension for overthinking. With that, she tried to focus on getting out of the awkward, networking air and more into the mode of just hanging out with a friend.
"You know, it's nice to-to meet someone here who experience the-the same sort of weird energy in those sort of-of places," Rhiannon commented as they walked away from the party and into a night filled with possibility. "Obviously they all do too. But it always f-feels like I'm gauging for someone who might agree."
When Saki realized that she wanted to be an actress, she'd wanted to tell Maura who hadn't been happy. She'd spent so long sucking up to people in Hollywood, attending all the right parties in LA to get a role all for nothing. It was her own road when she found her dream role and the one that launched her career. At this point Saki didn't need to attend events like this, she only did to find interesting people and maybe be considered for a role.
"Yeah, I always feel like the same producers show up to these things here. I don't normally go." Moving to Aurora Bay had been a choice after she found out about the manor. It hadn't helped with their career. "Well next one of these sorts of things you want to go to, you should text me. At least we can be miserable together."
"Similar wavelengths then. You and-and I on that one," There had surely been a point to these more so at one point. Where friends could tell other friends about their stuff. Or maybe actually seem to have conversations that moved along more in regards to lives lived rather than projects worked. Now it just seemed like a whirlpool of networking in a way that felt underhanded. Still, seemed like Rhia was at one at least once a month now.
Her smile was impossible to hide. One that was wide, but somehow still bashful. She was just happy to get to spend time with Saki again in general. "Would I-? Yes. Yes, I'd love to-to go get dinner with you. Get out of here and stuff." The briefest pause. "I'm good whenever. If it helps. No coat room or anything like that f-from me today."
"I love that for us." Saki looked around the room once more before turning their attention towards Rhia. Honestly it was much better when she didn't have to pretend to care about a room full of people who probably wouldn't think twice about her after she left. But maybe that was being pessimistic and Saki didn't love to be like that very often. It reminded them of their foster mom.
"Good. I'd like that too." She hadn't been sure the offer would be taken up. Although she tended to not think that highly of herself in situations like this. Even though they weren't sure what this was. "Same." Saki looked around the room one more time and held out their arm. "Let's go."

"What is your grandfather known for?" she asks, genuinely curious, "I'd say that my family is well known, but it's more locally and it's only because we come from a long line of morticians. We're the physical representation of the coffin riddle." @sakigrey
"He was an actor. Was in a popular spy franchise. He's buried here in town." Saki hadn't visited the grave. It was strange enough living in his mansion. There were so many posters of his movies in her house. It felt like stepping into a museum sometimes. "That's still pretty neat."
"You've never dated anyone who pissed you off?" Esther scoffs. "Or do you mean you've never wanted to piss them off back? Either way, couldn't be me. I am so deeply vengeful, it's like a sickness."
Eyebrows furrowing, she says, "Wait...what do you mean you stole a car that was left to you?" @sakigrey
"No. Most of the relationships I've had were all fake for press. Or ended naturally. My career has always been way more important than any relationship too." Which wasn't to say they hadn't hooked up with people, but they didn't have that much experience dating someone. "I think I'm probably nice for that." She wasn't judging.
"My mom left it to me when I turned eighteen, but my foster mom wouldn't let me use it unless she knew where I was going and when I'd be back. I kinda left home and stole the car."
The dullness of the numerous moments before this quickly disappeared. A little bit of sunshine could bring about color and Saki had been more than just a single ray when they had spoken before. All the same, even if it had been just a miniscule bit of it, Rhiannon was thankful to know someone here. Always moving and doing a job inside a recording booth had cut her out of most social functions. "S-Something more akin to the second one, yes," She smiled, almost whispering so no one would take offense. If they heard, that is.
"Oh? Yeah, I can see why," A bit more back to normal level, the nervous voice actor glanced around the scene. "It-It can be a b-bit hard not to feel like a prized cattle being b-brought out at these things. Proving ourselves or m-making sure-sure everyone knows us-" Realizing she was rambling, Rhia shook her head, "Do you want to g-get out of here? With me maybe?"
These events were never Saki's favorite to attend. They liked smaller events where they knew everyone that was going to be there. But still, attending them to get out there was important regardless of their feelings about it. "That's how I'm feeling too." She wished there were more interesting people around, but really it was just... well Rhiaannon. Everyone else was so dull in comparison.
"I thought there'd be more people without current projects, but I think everyone here is working on something. Sure there probably were projects in the works, but they'd been here long enough to say hello to most people. "That's what I was doing too." A reminder that she still existed. "I'd love to. Do you, um, want to go get dinner?"
🔧 WRENCH - are they good at fixing relationships? or do they tend to avoid doing so?
"I'm not the person to ask about fixing relationships. I avoid it most of the time. I could talk to my foster mom, plenty of things have changed and I'm a different person, but I just... I don't."

"Absolutely." He nods in agreement, smile staying. At the comment on gentle bashing, Jase can only shrug. "Fair. Probably not a healthy thing, that's for sure." He gives a light laugh to soften the mood, maybe.
"That makes two of us?" he offers playfully, a spark in Jase's eyes. There might be a slight deflation at Saki's admission to being more there for the coffee and the vibes--Not that Jase is Mr. Lonely Heart looking for love or anything. But there's definitely a desire to meet people, see how things go. "I don't think most people date to fill in time slots," he says with a tighter smile, "Or, rather, I hope they don't? Although I can't speak for everybody." He shakes his head lightly. "I think for some it's just about... connections and maybe having that specific person you just... want to be around?" He shrugs. "I mean... I could also be in the minority about that." He watches them curiously, giving a softer smile. "It's good to know what you want, though--and don't want."
@sakigrey
It had been a long time since they'd been in a relationship that was more than a fling. Sometimes they missed it, but then they thought about their career and how important it had been to prove her foster mom wrong. "No, but I get it. Everyone has one red flag." And one red flag was nothing. Although some were bigger than others.
She didn't like thinking about dating like that so she really hoped that others didn't either. "I don't know. I think people date because it's expected of them. Like there's so much pressure to find that person." Saki believed there was someone out there for everyone, but people were so worried about getting into a relationship before a certain age that they just dated to date. "I agree."
Mia tilted her head at that comment. She could ask, absolutely. But she didn't. She had a feeling the other would give her more of the story if she didn't ask anything specific.
"Bet that sales girl at La Perla still thinks of me." Mia chuckled. She had..made an impression there to say the least. Her mother had hated it afterwards. But..fair's fair, she had paid a girl to no longer be interested in seeing Mia in lingerie..so she had to buy some more. Racey and pricey. Twisted logic but it had made sense to Mia back then.
"It does sound boring." Mia agreed. What, was she supposed to lie!? "Is the husband really a nice guy or you're just saying cause you're nice?" she asked. She had seen it before, the type who would only say nice things because being the good one was kind of etched into their dna. Mia had never been that type; she'd say it flat out if someone was horrible and wouldn't care if they called her a bitch after. || @sakigrey
Living with Maura wasn't all bad. She'd always enjoyed the woman's company and even if she was kind of a nightmare to live with as a teen didn't make everything bad. Saki was proud of the person they were today and that mattered more than anything else.
"Probably. That absolutely sounds like a situation where someone would constantly think of what could have been." Saki wasn't sure they'd ever be in a situation like that, but then again, there were a lot of situations they would never be in.
Unfortunately, she really didn't see herself getting into a relationship right now, even if there was someone she was kind of interested in. "No, he seems nice. We've not really had too much time to hang out. They both live in New York City, so they've only shown up to LA a few times, but he seems really nice." And really he did deserve a good relationship.
"Damn, twinsies," Scottie laughs under her breath, shaking her head slightly so her mop of curls will fall back over her shoulders.
"So, like, did she not tell you who he was to protect you or whatever? Because I'm pretty sure mine just had like, genuinely no fucking idea who the guy was. But, then again, she's also a raging cunt so she could be pretending not to know out of spite. Wouldn't put it past her."
In fact, there were very few things she wouldn't put past Nina Nolan.
At her explainations, Scottie arches a brow.
"So, you're like, not gonna get laid ever and blame it on your grandpa? That's a new one."
Saki was pretty sure her mom didn't even know the name of her father, but then again they'd never spoken about it. Nothing pinged from her father's side when she did a DNA test, which was something.
"I don't think my mom knew anything past a first name," they shrugged. "She was trying to be an actress and didn't know she was pregnant when she left LA after she gave up." But her mom wasn't around anymore. "Kinda sucks that you mom sucks that badly that you'd think that." Saki's own mother hadn't been the best, but she did protect Saki at least. Maura was a different story.
"Oh, I didn't mean getting laid, I meant relationship wise. It's weird being famous and having to fend of people who are not only your own fans but also fans of your grandfather. I tend to go out of town for hookups. That's just a personal preference."
"I appreciate that," she says honestly, though she wonders if Saki would feel the same if she got to know her, "it's taken me a long time to feel more comfortable in my own skin." Shiloh's face lights up as she hears about Saki's former romantic partner, "oh, that's lovely." Maybe she's getting ahead of herself having never even dated before, but she hopes one day if she has an ex that they can remain on good terms too. "Are the both of you celebrities or something?" she asks, sincerely, "I've never been in the presence of a famous person before." It's taking everything in her not to curtsy in front of Saki.
"Me too." Which seemed so silly to admit because there had never been anything wrong with her in the first place. Saki knew that Maura had done a lot of damage to her over the years. Now she was way more confident as a person than she ever had beforehand. "I think so too. He was great and deserves everything." Saki nodded. "I moved to LA after high school. And he went to New York for college. Now we're both doing what we like." Saki smiled softly. "Well, I don't think I'm as famous as my grandfather, but people think I'm talented. So that's something."
Saki loved Valentine's Day even if they didn't have a significant other. It had been a while since she'd dated and though she didn't think that being in a relationship was the most important thing to celebrate when it came to the day. Friendships were just as important, if not more so, to her. Going to the botanical gardens was for fun though, not because they were planning on getting any flowers or gifts for anyone in particular. Saki walked around, watching all the couples walking around.
She wasn't paying attention to anyone in particular, but she watched someone run straight into the biggest teddy bear she'd ever seen. "See what?" Saki questioned, keeping their face even.
"God bless you," Andy muttered gratefully as she slowly picked herself up, groaning. She looked down at herself ruefully when she was back on her feet, wiping dirt off of her elbows and chasing her own tail trying to figure out if she'd gotten any on the seat of her pants.
"On a scale from 1 to 10, how pathetic did that look? And you can be honest with me."
Saki laughed softly. They didn't really like adding to embarrassment whenever they could help it. She knew that situations unfortunately happened sometimes. Still they knew that pointing out someone's missteps didn't always help.
"It wasn't that bad. I've had worse falls. Are you okay?"

"Erm, yeah," he says after a bit of silence, "perhaps I've shared too much? Please tell me that you've heard worse stories than mine." Though hopefully not too bad." It's not a light story to dump onto someone, so he hopes he hasn't made her uncomfortable. "Oh, well, I am definitely in a better place now. I have a lovely girlfriend, actually." @sakigrey
"No, no. I don't believe in sharing too much information like this." Although sometimes it made them sad when they heard of a sad story. There were some truly terrible people out there. "I have. None of them make me want to date. I mean at least no one ended up severely injured in your case. White collar crime is bad, but murder and maiming is still worse. I watch a lot of random true crime stuff. I've never met anyone who's been hurt by a partner." Saki shrugged, knowing that a relationship had never been part of their plan. At least right now. "That's good!"
These sorts of events were much less frequent in Aurora Bay than they were in LA. But they still found away to the fringes parts. Maybe it was a gambit to try and show others than living in Aurora Bay was just as good, if not better than 'Hollywood.' Rhiannon wasn't sure. But there were contracts she signed and they usually meant free food and some easy conversations with people with whom she was actually a fan of.
"-Voice over work actually. Mostly. It's...It's really the bread and butter for me. Maybe a stray commercial here and there." She's answering and smiling vaguely as the other excused himself, only to met with the eyes of a familiar face on the other side of the man she had been speaking to. "Oh! S-Saki, I wasn't...hey, fun to see you here!"
They loved networking events because it always meant meeting someone new. Saki would never discount them as that's the reason she ended up with a job in the first place. She owed her entire career to a simple networking event. Hollywood networking events were a lot, but the good thing about ones in Aurora Bay was how few people there were at them.
Saki had spotted Rhia almost immediately, but had mostly been talking to one of the producers she was friends with. He kept droning on about some show he was trying to work on and honestly Saki was bored. But as soon as he found someone else to talk to, they ran away, walking towards the other who was mid conversation with someone else. "Same!" they exclaimed a little too loudly. "Are you having fun or caught up with too many boring people?" they asked. "I wanted to say hello, but I'm considering heading out."
