kate on labeling mdv as coquette
browsing the my dark vanessa tag because i’m currently rereading and it’s also one of my top three favourite books in the world, and i understand (and agree to a certain extent) why people are saying that this book shouldn’t be viewed as a ‘female manipulator doelette red scare coquette’ book but also…just take a step back and think. maybe this is how people who have been through abuse and toxic relationships work through it.
kate elizabeth russell literally writes in the acknowledgments that this book was written for the Dolores and Vanessas of the world who have been through similar situations. speaking for myself, i have been through some weird/unhealthy/traumatic experiences, and this is how i choose to cope. by reblogging and writing my own posts about things that are similar to what i’ve been through. when i first read mdv, i had never felt seen or understood. my friends just remember my ‘teacher crush’ or ‘lolita’ phase when i was sixteen as a bad time for them, a time where i was unwell, whereas i am still trying to work through the consequences of that stage of my life. i connected with vanessa wye on such an intense level because we are so similar, that’s why her and dolores haze are my comfort characters. because they remind me of who i am and who i’ve been.
idk, i just feel like we need to have more compassion with each other.

I was Eminem's hair stylist (just combing his bald head) and he was telling me about being bisexual in the rap community (it's tough).

A couple of my favorite quotes from Nobody Likes You (greenday book):
“Still, they [mike and billie] were two of the most ambitious stoners who ever inhaled.”
“Reagan is bad. Socialism can work. Speed is intense. Queers are radical. Reagan is really bad. Maybe I should be a vegetarian?”
More quotes:
"This is music for people with raging hormones and short attention spans," Time magazine wrote in June 1994, "for the sort of kid who, as his burrito rotates in the microwave, impatiently frets, 'three minutes is an eternity. "Beavis and Butt-Head have started a band and it's called Green Day," crowed Rolling Stone in their "Hot Issue" of that year (Green Day being named Hot Band). Entertainment Weekly would later note (in December of that year) the phenomenon of the trout dances writ extremely large. "Call it Anarchy 90210. The punk rock of yore may have been the property of gloomy subterraneans, Orange County surfers, and jackbooted British thugs, but these days the Clearasil club is learning to mosh."
So you know how a lot of modern romance books are just published starwars reylo fanfics…yeah…I think we need start publishing mcr fanfics traditionally …
this show is ruining my life
I have an unhealthy obsession with this specific photo
and now you have it as a gif~🎃
ik season 7 ended like two seconds ago but ive prepared a wishlist for season 8. ahem,
a scene where rick and morty have an emotional hug that they don't push away or tense up from. like really emotional, like desperate clinging to each other like they're each the only thing keeping the other from literally falling apart
rick tongues a man

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM!!!
I wish we saw more of Rick's therapy appointments on screen, but the brilliance of the writing is that his behavioral changes help you infer what they talk about. He's definitely processing his old trauma--he tells Summer that she reminds him of Diane and chooses Morty over a fantasy version of the past.
Family relationships come up, too. He's more overtly worried about Morty's safety, keeps him out of the riskier adventures, has a new "touch my grandson and die" policy that scares alien mobsters, shows Summer affection and becomes more of a father/grandfather instead of a drunken maniac.
He's still Rick--rude, crabby, drunk, depressed, haunted--but he's starting to grow up and treat people like human beings. Dr. Wong isn't always the best therapist, but she's the best therapist for him.
It's the opposite of The Sopranos (which is the greatest show ever made, imo.) We see Tony's therapy visits, and he mostly stops having panic attacks and has a few breakthroughs, but he continues his downward slide until he's an irredeemable monster at the end.
