🐣 Searching Exclusive Easter egg!

SPOILER ALERT

This Easter egg was so well hidden, even Searching writer / producer Sev Ohanian didn’t see it until he’d read my post! (The second picture is his comment on my Reddit post.)

In the top picture you’ll see references made to fictive locations including two that include ‘Merrick’ (referring to Will Merrick, who is the editor and Director of Virtula Photography), one to Qasabian (Natalie Qasabian was a producer of the film), and a very interesting one to ‘Scheve Multi-Use Area’.

So, what is ‘scheve’? According to the Urban Dictionary, ‘scheve’ means ‘ To steal someone else’s pot smoking utensils.’ What does that have to do with this map? If you remember, Margot Kim was at her favourite place in the world (Barbosa Lake, see map) smoking marijuana the night she disappeared. As we can assume she wouldn’t dare keep any smoking paraphernalia at home, it’s only logical that she picked some up along the way, right? Well, before going to the lake she was smoking weed with her Uncle, who was a regular smoker and certainly had all the material. This means she must have stolen -- or scheved -- it from him before parking at ‘Scheve Multi-use Area’ and taking advantage of one of the multi-use aspects of the location. 🥦🌿

🐣 Hereditary Easter egg! Remember when Annie knocked over the jar of paint? If you pay close attention, you’ll notice she doesn’t, Paimon does. Look closely at the GIF, you’ll see the jar falls over before her hand can touch it. Also, if you pay close attention to the upper right corner, you’ll note the blue light that represents Paimon’s influence.

So, why does Paimon interfere here? Because Joan, one of the members of his cult, gave her phone number to Annie but Annie had forgotten about it. The spilled paint reaches the paper, Annie picks it up and decides to contact Joan. That meeting will lead to the ceremony where Annie inadvertently calls up Paimon with Peter... But that’s another story. 😉

Hereditary Exclusive Easter egg!

Note that along the wall is a rudimentary altar to Paimon built atop two crates marked ‘Hercules Powder’. Hercules was a Roman god whose fatal flaw was ignoring the signs around him. Direct reference is made to his Greek counterpart Heracles when Peter is in class. Both the altar and the boxes make the father’s comment all the more ironic.
