CFDA Announces Initiatives to Combat Systemic Racism in Fashion
And then you ask me whether I approve of violence. I mean that just doesn’t make any sense at all to whether I approve of guns. I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, some very, very good friends of mine were killed by bombs, bombs that were planted by racists. I remember from the time I was very small, I remember the sound of bombs exploding across the street, our house shaking. I remember my father having to have guns at his disposal at all times because of the fact that at any moment someone we might expect to be attacked. The man who was at the time in complete control of the city government, his name was Bull Conner, would often get on the radio and make statements like “n**gas have moved into white neighborhoods, we better expect some bloodshed tonight.” and sure enough there would be bloodshed. After the four young girls who lived next door to me, I was very good friends with the sister of another but my sister was very good friends with all three of them. My mother taught one in her class, my mother in fact when the bombing occurred one of the mothers of one of the young girls called my mother and said “Can you take me down to the church to pick up Carol? You know we heard about the bombing and I don’t have my car.” and they went down and what they find is limbs and heads strewn all over the place and then after that all of the men in my neighborhood organized themselves into an armed patrol. They had to take their guns and patrol our community every night because they did not want that to happen again. I mean that’s why when someone asks me about violence, I just find it incredible because what it means is this person asking the question has absolutely no idea what black people have gone through, what black people have experienced in this country since the time of the first (volume cuts out)
Hey folks, this is not your typical post about incorrect quotes.
I want to address a serious issue today, and most of you probably know what’s been going on in the US.
The killing of George Floyd started another serious and necessary debate on Police brutality in the states. (And I think not just there. Every country is affected in some way or another.)
My heart doesn’t ache, no. My heart is bleeding and crying out of pain about what has been going on for days now. What people have been going through for years and years. This is not the first case of police brutality against POC, nor the second, and it probably isn’t the last one.
It happened so many times already that I can’t count them all. Our world has lost so many beautiful souls to this never-ending issue. Additionally to this, we lost so many brothers and sisters of color who were part of the LGBTQ+ community too. Even though it is pride month, I can’t enjoy and celebrate it as much as I want to.
But now is the time to act. Now more than ever! We all have a voice, and I’m sure as hell using mine. And I want you to do the same.
40 Ways you can help right now shows you different techniques and approaches to support the #blacklivesmatter movement in various forms.
Everyone’s able to do something. Even if you don’t have the money to donate, or you’re not from the US, share articles, draw attention to it in some way. Being silent about this puts you on the side of the offenders.
I understand that I will never understand. However, I stand with all of you!!! Credit goes to @sfbucketlist on instagram for these 40 ways you can help right now.
Amy Cooper calls the cops on a black man in Central Park, addressed as Mr. Cooper, and falsely claims he is threatening her life after requesting her dog be leashed in a leashed dog area.
She is the head of insurance investment of Franklin Templeton, who merely put her on administrative leave.
The video also shows Amy Cooper abusing and choking her dog, and has since surrendered it to the shelter it was adopted from.
It also appears, through posts to her dogs Instagram account, that she is a frequent animal abuser / neglectful.
Her racism could have gotten this man killed and she knew it. She tried to sic the NYPD on an innocent black man and she knew the possible outcome of her actions.
Her name is
Amy Cooper
