I think I found what’s called love this May
It’s strange.
For years, this little corner of the internet has witnessed every version of me. The angry one. The grieving one. The lost one. The one trying to romanticize survival because it sounded prettier than admitting how much it hurt. If you’ve been here long enough, you probably know that I’ve written far more about darkness than I ever have about light. Maybe that’s why writing this feels almost unreal.
Because I think I finally understand what people mean when they talk about love.
Not the fantasy of it. Not the longing. Not the version created by loneliness, hope, projection, or wishful thinking. The real thing. Or at least the closest thing I’ve ever known to it. For the longest time, I thought love would feel dramatic. Like certainty arriving all at once. Like fireworks. Like a storm powerful enough to silence every doubt I had ever carried. Instead, it arrived quietly. Not as a revelation. As recognition. And that distinction feels important. There is something profoundly beautiful about encountering a connection that doesn’t need to convince you of its existence. Something that doesn’t demand belief because every interaction naturally confirms what intuition already knows.
I’ve spent most of my life observing people. Studying emotions. Looking beneath words. Trying to understand why some connections fade while others leave permanent fingerprints on the soul. And despite all of that, I was never prepared for how simple it would feel when something was finally right. Not easy. Not perfect. Just right.
For the first time, reciprocity stopped feeling like something I had to search for. Understanding stopped feeling accidental. Vulnerability stopped feeling dangerous. There was no invisible wall. No persistent feeling of being misunderstood. No exhausting effort to bridge a distance that shouldn’t have existed in the first place. Only presence. Only curiosity. Only the quiet comfort of feeling met where I already was.
The strangest part is that the intensity isn’t what stands out when I look back on it. It’s the peace. The softness. The absence of force. The way something beautiful can grow without being pulled toward the light. The way happiness can arrive so gently that it takes weeks to realize it has completely changed the atmosphere of your life.
I used to think love would feel like losing control. Now I wonder if love is actually the opposite. Maybe love is what happens when control is no longer necessary. When the heart stops negotiating with reality. When expectations become presence. When imagination finally steps aside and allows something real to exist.
And maybe that’s why this feels so different from everything that came before it. Because nothing about it was chased. Nothing was forced. Nothing was imagined into existence. It simply appeared, slowly and naturally, until one day I realized that the world felt brighter than it had before. Not because life had suddenly become perfect. But because somewhere along the way, joy became more familiar than longing.
And for someone who spent years writing her way through darkness, that realization feels almost miraculous.
So maybe this is what love looks like.
Not a storm. Not a fire. Not a grand declaration. Just a quiet certainty growing where uncertainty used to live.
And I think I found what’s called love this May.
