Mark's PTSD is so interesting to me because his flashbacks are not random—he merely experiences trauma he got from watching his loved ones get murdered by Thragg. The manner in which they get killed directly parallels to what he has seen himself.

When Thragg kills Thaedus, an authority figure that led Mark & Nolan, provided guidance, and always knew what to do, Mark proceeds to project it onto Debbie:

When Mark witnesses Thragg killing his dad, he projects it onto his other father figure:

After Mark sees Thragg kill his own brother, he projects his murder onto someone who has also been like a brother to him:

Finally, Mark projects his own experience onto the person Mark cares about the most, the one who he cares about as much as his own life:

Mark's flashbacks were not random. Mark knew exactly what Thragg was capable of.
