I love the tale of Gawain and The Green Knight because it’s a tale about how even though Gawain isn’t as honorable as Lancelot or the other knights, he’s still good. He’s not great, but he’s good enough, and that’s all you have to really be. You make mistakes or make poor decisions but there is honor and courage in facing the consequences that come with them. Gawain accepted the challenge and went to the green chapel, knowing he would probably die, but he did it anyway because he had integrity enough to make good on his promise. It’s about how sometimes being great isn’t what to strive for, but sometimes just being good enough where you can still live with yourself is still worthwhile.
