Jane Eyre & Botchan: I LOVE THESE BOOKS what brings them into the bm inspo board is the sheer bullshit both protagonists go through (weird family environment then they turn into cynics), and how botchan deals with rural island life, which is the major inspo for Sasha and how she acts with the bm gang! Jane Eyre because I adore the horror element, even though it’s technically a slow burn romance, I love how she chooses kindness despite going through the horrors

The Virgin Suicides & Alice in Wonderland, Midnight in Paris: this movie (TVS) had me floored, the entire sad girl aesthetic inspired a ton of reboot bm stuff, and Alice in wonderland especially with the Temple and how they interact with Lori. Just weird surrealist vibes..also I loved Midnight in Paris, I adored the classic references, and I loved how they mixed in the authors with our modern protagonist, another aspect I added into the temple to blend in lori with our ancient mentors

The Red Shoes: The entire movie is a masterpiece, and it was a major inspiration for Joan’s character, for a quick context behind the movie, a young ballerina falls in love with one of the music producers, her director however doesn’t want her to become a housewife, and forbids it. It’s like a theatre Romeo and Juliet, and became a part of why I focused on the Hall of Heath as a theatre hall.

Party Girl & The Nanny, Gilmore Girls: Fun late 90s, early 2000s comedy with fast-paced dialogue is how I always imagined black magic to function, Party Girl is also one of my favorite movies because of how much of a bitch Mary is, and she inspired Loretta Dalma intern arc, if you watch the movie you’d understand why lol as Mary tries to prove to her librarian aunt that she can recite the library of Congress index. I always loved Gilmore Girls and the Nanny for it’s humor, but Gilmore Girls esp for the vibe and aesthetics of autumn small town
