Prayer for July 6th

Religious trauma is real, and stories about it absolutely have a place. But I’d love to see more stories where a character realizes the harmful version of Christianity they were taught isn’t the same as Christ.

Give me characters who deconstruct abuse instead of faith.

Give me characters who discover a deeper, kinder, more compassionate Christianity.

Give me doctors, teachers, farmers, artists, scientists, and ordinary people who see their work as their vocation.

Give me faith rooted in love instead of fear.

Tonight (07.05.2026), let us unite in prayer for the following intentions:

• For all those struggling with addictions, that through the intercession of Blessed Mark Ji Tianxiang, who endured the suffering of opium addiction with steadfast faith, the Lord may grant them strength, perseverance, healing, and the grace to overcome their addictions.

• For the SSPX, that they may one day be brought into full unity with Christ’s Church.

• For all those affected by the recent accidents in Venezuela, that the Lord and Our Blessed Mother may grant healing to the injured, comfort to their families, and eternal rest to those who have lost their lives.

• For all those who have become victims of wars around the world, that the Prince of Peace may bring them consolation, protection, and the hope of lasting peace.

• For the conversion of a person who has fallen away from the faith, that Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in His infinite mercy, may draw them back to Himself and fill their heart with the light of His truth and love.

Today is the feast day of St. Maria Goretti, virgin and martyr!

Most lovable little Saint, who valued your purity above any earthly gain, and who sealed this choice with a martyr’s death, obtain for me also a strong love of this virtue, so consoling to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The pleasures of the world create many temptations for me. I turn to your powerful intercession in Heaven, so that with this help I may remain ever loyal to God, no matter what the price. In danger inspire me to repeat with you, No, it is a sin!

Catholics better understand that biblical forgiveness is not necessarily earned through work. They do have some rituals (like prayers) that can help speed up the process, but there are generally two tracks in the Catholic mindset: forgiveness is something that can never be earned and is undeserved in a defeatest, self-deprecating way; and forgiveness is impossible to earn or deserve, but in a sense of wonder and thankfulness. Catholic forgiveness for sin may be strengthened and aided by prayer or good deeds, but those are more like bonus points towards being good overall than a means of earning your way forward (again a subtle distinction).

Because (in Catholicism) you can't earn your way past sin, you instead must be punished in order to be cleansed--and that means suffering. This is essentially microdosing purgatory while on earth. Prayers can show that you've learned your lesson, or they can ask saints/other holy figures to intervene and lessen the level of suffering you need to go through. They then consider your goodness (the bonus points, so to speak) and determine if/how much to help you.

Additionally, there's the difference in iconography. Catholics like the original icons--anything you associate with traditional Christianity is probably Catholic. Things like stained glass, Saints, angels, dramatic paintings, sculpture, etc.
